great tips in the thread, even though I didn't need them yet

Got my wife a Kindle 3 yesterday... no problems with registration ( I already have an Amazon Account set up 3 months before, used KindlePC a week ago).. set the location in the US with a US address

this device looks like a toy than a real amazing e-book reader

bought the free books, games and used the free kindle PDF/docx convert service without any problems

recommend to convert pdf to azw, much better for reading...

conversion does not work for scanned pages pdf

page turning is quick enough... you have to see the e-ink display in real life to believe it ( Kindle 3 has the best e-ink display out there with 16 shades of grey.... no need to compare to iRiver, Han Lin, Benq (sold at mph), Sony, Nook (some of these only 8 shades of grey). What's so amazing is Kindle 3 is cheaper than most of the other devices!!

it's like reading on paper so need some room lighting.... or get those leather covers with lights

4GB (3+GB usable) memory is good enough for books so don't worry about not having external memory card drive.. you're not watching movies here

the device is the best for reading a book from start to finish, not the best for reference books where u jump from page to page (but still can be done)

has text to speech function...it's so awesome when it can read aloud your books icon_idea.gif

web surfing is not bad with low graphics sites

love this device.....

still trying to use 3rd party software converter (caliber)... to make it easier to convert files

now planning to hack the screen saver with my own photos instead of the dead author photos wacko.gif

will get another one for myself rclxm9.gif... will try to sell in the forum if I can get extra units

How do you purchase without VPN? Amazon kindle's site will say you're from Asia Pacific and the item is not available.

I'm not sure why mine works but for some doesn't... but i did use hotspot shield once just to change my location to the US and download Kindle 4 PC... that was all i did

after that everything worked whenever i log in at any pc at home or work.... I can see/buy books in the kindle store etc..

hope it would last with no problems biggrin.gif

Guess what, I just go to "select my country", then popup a window with address to fill in, I just choose back the US address. No more "country" thingy issue smile.gif will try and see whether the message will re-appear or not

was wondering if anybody shipped the kindle in from overseas? if so, was the kindle subjected to taxes or fees from customs?
*
officially you get taxed/duty (15-20%, I think) for items worth more than RM500 (item price + shipping cost)... if your item gets to you without being held by customs, you're just lucky biggrin.gif
