Mazda 3 Sport Sedan was launched about a year back with 2 engine variants – the 1.6 litre and the 2.0 litre. The first quater of the year, Bermaz brought in the Mazda 3 Sport hatchback in only 2.0 litre form. We got some news from our internal source Bermaz or Mazda Malaysia will be bringing in the Mazda 3 1.6 Sport Hatchback.

The photo above is a Mazda 3 2010 hatchback with a difference bumper and headlights as we previously report the Mazda 3 Sport 2.0 hatchback here. Malaysian likely seeing their Mazda 3 Sport 1.6 hatchback to look like this. The Mazda 3 Sport 1.6 hatchback is expected to be in our shores in August or September this year.

The Mazda 3 1.6 Sport hatchback front is expected to look the same with the Mazda 3 Sport 1.6 Sedan. Lacking of foglights, a different bumper compare to the Mazda 3 Sport 2.0 and a different headlights. We would expect there won’t be HID lights too.


Standard audio system control on the steering on the left, and controls for the Multi Information Display (MID) on the right. The Mazda 3 1.6 models are lacking cruise control and paddle shift when compare the the 2.0 litre model.

As for the Audio system, there will be only single disc and for the air-condition system, the Mazda 3 Sport 1.6 model will be having a manual dial lacking the 2.0 litre model dual-zone auto climate.

The Mazda 3 Sport 1.6′s speedometer is also different, lucky enough it is in black background and that can be compromised.

The Mazda 3 1.6 Sport Hatchback or Sedan model produces 103hp and 144Nm of torque as compare to the 2.0 version which produces 145hp and 182Nm of torque. The 1.6 litre MZR engine is mated with a 4-speed automatic gearbox.

Nine units Mazda 3 1.6 Sport hatchback will be carried into Malaysia and that’s 3 White , 2 Black and 4 Red colours.  It is expected that this Mazda 3 1.6 Sport hatchback will be priced at RM116,203 on the road without insurance and with insurance for RM119,428.  Although it’s a imported model from Japan, this price for a 1.6 litre – not many people able to justify to get the car. However we will wait to see the response for these 9 units of Mazda 3 1.6 Sport hatchback.
