Don't be too quick to judge those pro-LAN as pirates. Have faith in Blizzard? Fix the Blademaster first please. Maybe they already forgot wc3 existed.

For those who are unhappy with the LAN thing.

QUOTE
That's what a BlizzCon attendee shouted out after Rob "answered" a question regarding the reduction of multiplayer lag in Australia. And of course, there was also that earlier incident where Rob asked how many people still play games offline and a little over half the crowd gave a resounding uproar of confirmation. After an insulting snort of laughter, he asked "Really?" and quite a few people shouted out things like "Yeah!" and "Yes!" and "All the time!" Asking why they didn't play online, a handful of people gave reasons, the only audible answer being "College." Then he proceeded to blatantly brush away those reasons by giving the insulting response, "Well, those five people will be able to play in offline mode."

Nice one, Rob -- real nice.

Thats just your assumption.

The thing that what Blizzard needs to do is have a look at IP tunnelers or any ping reduction programs, then, take a few pages from it,improve it which is what they always do.

What makes you think that it's gonna be as crap as their battlenet now? If Battlenet is crap, then, how about GFWL,Gamespy etc? Those are even worse from what i heard from those who played on a few MP system.

There are some Battlenet 2.0 screenshots.Looks more like having Steam fully integrated into the game with much much more bells and whistles.

There is even a custom decals option, like Dawn of War. rclxm9.gif

A ladder that actually match you correctly.

I dont mind to get online all the time just to play SC2. Steam has made me get used playing games online.

I do hope Battlenet 2.0 will be much better than any MP system out there,as most RTS MP system out that are rubbish.

They say heroes might come in later.

Discussion is about custom map. Heroes custom maps have been evocated but there is still no confirmation about Heroes in StarCraft II.

I would say,this video is a must watch,even though it's a bit blur,as it shows off SC2's graphics.

Who dare to say SC2 is ugly?

Blizzard Planning Pseudo-LAN Support for StarCraft 2, Diablo 3 to Follow Suit

QUOTE
Battle.net developer Greg Canessa says that Blizzard is actively working on a LAN-like solution to include for Battle.net play in StarCraft II.

"We are working on solutions with regard to things we can do to maintain connectivity to Battle.net in some way, but also provide a great quality connection between players," said Canessa.
Blizzard recently announced that traditional LAN play would not be included in the game, with offline play only being allowed in the singleplayer campaign.

I asked Canessa whether the solution his team is working on might include a pseudo-LAN connection, where the game would only check in with Battle.net to authenticate before reverting to typical LAN behavior.

"Something like that," he replied. "Maintaining a connection with Battle.net, I don't know if it's once or periodically, but then also having a peer-to-peer connection between players to facilitate a very low-ping, high-bandwidth connection.. those are the things that we're working on."

Diablo III lead designer Jay Wilson also confirmed that Diablo III will treat LAN in the same way that StarCraft II does, meaning that while traditional offline LAN will not be included in that game, it should support any Battle.net solution developed for the RTS.

So,please stop complaining about no LAN.

Even the achievements alone is enough to keep me playing on Battlenet. It's stupid, but it does help to make the game damn fun when you are trying to do all the stupid stuff just like TF2.

StarCraft 2 to Support Priced Maps, Mods

QUOTE
A future StarCraft II Marketplace service was announced today at BlizzCon. The Battle.net store, planned to be added to StarCraft II after the game's launch, will allow map makers to publish both free and "premium" maps.

Premium maps will carry a fee, meaning mod and map makers can sell their content directly on Battle.net.
"We want to make sure that the best amateur game designers out there are making maps for StarCraft 2, and not for Kongregate or Steam or anything like that," said Blizzard's Rob Pardo.

"Think about it like this: something like Defense of the Ancients, I think, would be something like a free map because it doesn't have a lot of original content," he added, while noting that Blizzard made the announcement today in order to give map makers time to start thinking about ideas.

"We totally intend for there to be a lot of free content," he assured the crowd.

I dont really like this one,as they mention about iphone store which is a pain.Lite games are too little.Full games arent really worth the money.Free games have low production values or just retarded.

I do hope those with new content would charge. Then,i dont mind getting it by paying then.

Yar, some people were talking about the pseudo-LAN thing, that sounds like a pretty good compromise to me if they manage to do it, just need to connect to authenticate then you still get super low ping and conviviality of a LAN.

Nothing much you could argue about this if they pull it out, to manage to get one connection in a LAN is not that bad nowadays.

Very ambitious game man...

A bit on SC2 Beta, seems like it got pushed back to end of this year.

QUOTE(Domi87;23875)
My friend didn't want to go to Blizzcon for the second day because he thought it was the exact same as last year, which basically it was so he gave me his ticket.  I wasn't sure if I was gonna go, but finally decided go around 3pm (I live a good 10-15min from the convention center).  So as I'm walking back I see this guy carrying a shitton of Blizzcon crap and I'm thinking "man, this guy really cleaned em out."  And I look and hes got a bald head and I can see he has a beard, and I'm like what is this guy a Dustin Browder poser?

Then as he walks into the parking lot I see it is Dustin.  I kinda go a separate way but then eventually we end up walking together again and I called out his name and he said "yeah" and I just flat out asked, "So, whens the beta?"  He was actually nice enough to talk to me about and at first he said the same "By this year."  But I pressed him for a more solid answer and he said he hes not gonna lie, its gonna be Winter and then specifically NOVEMBER, DECEMBER.  And I asked him if that was for sure, and he said yeah.

So you heard it here first folks, Dustin confirms Nov, Dec after I ambushed him in the parking lot at Blizzcon.

I also realize you probably want verification so:

A pseudo LAN game mode is like ordering a keg of guinness stout but you get a pot of Black Soya Sauce.
*But the color and smell are almost the same!* Says the bartender.

A closed environment network is more likely has really, really low chances of getting disconnect (unless there's a power surge). A 'connect to a host server in some country just for having a Local game experience' has high chances of getting disconnect due to earthquake/thunderstorm/Zombie attack/Alien invasion/Solar flare... user posted image

Well no details on how the pseudo LAN will work, but if not mistaken the current Bnet allows you to finish your online game with somebody rather than stop the game mid match even when you get disconnected to Bnet, right?

Cant seem to find back some Battlenet 2.0 screenshots with a "Establishing Lag Zero Connection" logo on the right bottom corner when you are connection to Battlenet.

I think Blizzard is trying to come out with something to replace the low latency LAN.
