i never liked the ds-1 and have no idea why ppl rave so much about it.
japan / taiwan / whatever all crap. ds-2 no idea, but i would assume its almost the same sounding. if u push ur budget abit higher, can also check out marshall pedals. lower budget, behringer GDI21. |

QUOTE(choon hon @ Jun 2 2009, 04:13 PM) Honestly, you get a better sound from these pedals if you try them on a slightly overdriven channel (rather than fully clean). Nice way to get a smooth solo tone. But depends what you want to do with the pedal - i.e. rock, blues, etc. For heavier stuff, I'd go for something like the MT-2.. But do check out the Vox Satchurator. Much nicer sounding than the DS-1 in my opinion... |

I wouldn't be too sure about a metal master, I have one, and the only thing it's good for is for my metal needs. Otherwise, it's just expensive paperweight. Honestly, it's getting a little stale for my metal needs too anyway.
I would go for an SD-1. It's just nice for me when I play softer stuff, but I dunno bout you. What amp are you using anyway? A boutique pedal won't do much if you're plugging it into an average MG. |

QUOTE(empire @ Jun 4 2009, 11:34 AM) DS-1 is crap? You must be so damn good to give that kind od comment... I bet you didn't know what the DS-1 is the only pedal that has been on the mass production line with every aspect of it UNCHANGED for over 40 years. Many artists endorse it (including Steve Vai himself!) & it is the most popular distortion pedal. It is probably one of the most versetile dist pedals out there. It may not suit your style, but I assure you it is nowhere near being crap. Every Boss pedal is design to achive something that the other Boss pedals could not. Many people don't understand this and simply main-hantam buy only. That is why many end up to be dissatisfied. This post has been edited by erictham: Jun 23 2009, 02:08 PM |

i use 3 different ds-1, a stock, a analogman modded one, and a keely modded one. even the stock one sounds damn good ok....
chugging chunky riffs? get a Noah's ark Distortion B. it emulates a mesa boogie rectifier distortion... chun man. i got 2 ,selling one. got all sorts of boutique pedals go through my hands over the years, but a ds-2 is pretty much a ds 1 with a mod allowing the gain to be boosted. similar to my analogman.... so pretty worth it.and it can sound like the stock one as well. |

too much generalization and biases.. not all tube amps go to metal territory gain, therefore the need for pedals, boutique or non, in front of it
yes, artistes endorse diff pedals, but only because it suits their needs.. it is all about what u need and what u dun.. listen to demos, try them out if possible, sometimes u have to go thru several pedals before u find the right one |
