trying a metal awning and concrete tile, I would recommend the latter.
Reasons being the cooling performance of the concrete tiles is much better than metal.
To be fair to metal awnings, one shortfall of the concrete tile is the loss of head room as concrete tiles need a steeper slope to flush the water.
The second is that the metal awning is always provides a signal to keep the laundry before the rain.

ps. although i have not tried polycarbonate, but it is a reasonable choice. just beware that it traps a lot of dirt at the ends over time.
