The Potters are willing to pay a small fee to land the midfielder, who they believe can help cement their status as a Premier League club once more next season...

According to a report in the British tabloid The Daily Mail, Stoke City are hoping to prise Paul Scholes away from Manchester United during the close-season.

Apparently, the Potters are ready to pay a small fee to land the midfielder and, should they successfully do so, will also offer him a coaching role.

The Staffordshire outfit enjoyed a fantastic first season in the Premier League in 2008-09, finishing 12th in the table, 11 points clear of Newcastle United, who were relegated in 18th position.

It is thought that manager Tony Pulis views the former England international, who won 66 caps from 1997-2004, as the man to keep them in the top-flight again in 2009-10.

It is questionable as to whether the 34-year-old would agree to a move from Old Trafford to the Britannia Stadium. Scholes has spent his entire career with Manchester United and, having recently admitted next season could be his last as a player, he may well want to finish with the Red Devils.

However, it also appears that he is keen to enter into a coaching career when he retires, although it is thought United would almost certainly offer him a position of that kind.

The one thing which may draw him to Stoke City is the promise of starting games on a regular basis.

"Not playing every week is an adjustment you don't like making. You train all week, and you want to play games," Scholes recently admitted.

"I think there comes a time when you have to accept you won't play every week, especially with the quality of midfielders we have.

"I will have to see how I am next season, but if I feel I can go again, I will. I would have thought next season will be my last one, though. After that, I would not rule out management.

"Let's see how the coaching goes first, but I would like to be a manager one day. I think I could put up with the demands it brings."

2.Sell Nani (Looking at his play and performances its hard to see him being any better)

3.Sign Luis Antonio Valencia (this kid doesn't seem to have the skills and trickery of Ronaldo but is strong and has stamina, something which Nani lacks)

4.Sign DAVID SILVA (Giggs isn't getting any younger and Silva is the answer. Great on ball skills,dribbling and a dangerous shot combined with his pace makes him ideal for Manchester United)

How is that even relevant, He is not considered a legend because he's shown no loyalty at all to the fans and club who stuck behind him thru all the shits.

Same was with RVN. It's been revealed he repeatedly requested to go. At the first sign that he was not automatic 1st choice, he threw a tantrum. And reiteratd he desire to leave. And left under not good circumstances.

RVN and Ronaldo were good, good player for us. No question about that. But legend?? FFS, it's an insult to players like Bobby Charlton, Denis Law, Keano, Cantona, Irwin and several others.

Hell, George Best left us and went to Fulham for crying loud. 2 divisions down then just so he wouldn't have to play against his beloved United. Would be an insult to them if Ronaldo and RVN are considered as club legends.

Manchester United have made a renewed inquiry for Roma striker Mirko Vucinic.

The 25-year-old has been on United's radar for the past two years after he scored against them in the Champions League quarter final back in 2007.

He is 6ft 1ins tall, quick and has the ability to play left wing as well as a central striker which would suit United following Ronaldo's sale and Carlos Tevez's impending departure.

United scouts have watched him several times when he has scored vital goals in the Champions League against Real Madrid and Chelsea. There are reservations about his consistency but his goalscoring record is good.

Montenegro international Vucinic told Italian media last week that he had only heard rumours of United interest via the newspapers but he has since told team mates United are genuine and is hoping the Old Trafford club follow up with a firm offer.

Roma are in financial difficulties and would want around £15m for a player they paid Lecce £7m for in 2006.

United are continuing to scour the market for attacking players.

They hope to conclude a £15m deal for Wigan winger Antonio Valencia over the next week but Valencia striker David Villa wants to remain in Spain with his wife due to give birth in October.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are in a straight fight for the Spain international while they are also in pole position for Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery.

Valencia's David Silva remains another option while Porto claim they have had tentative inquiries for their striker Hulk.
