Seriously though, i thought the manager has the ultimate decision on who he wants in the team? Or is it done differently in Spain?

It doesn't only happen in Spain - Shevchenko at Chelsea.

And yeah, I'm getting tired of the photoshopped shirts too. Maybe they're trying to cash in on the last year of sponsorship (and I'm sure United would like to sell more shirts!) but they'd probably not redesign all the shirts - maybe add a new away kit at the most (with AIG).

I remember a couple posts back, someone was already selling the Saudi Telecom ones here on LYN... are we so hard up for new merchandise every season? tongue.gif

Thanks for the Cantona interview... I hope the movie is shown somewhere close to me (I live in the US currently) - they have an aversion to British films. All bloody Hollywood. Maybe an "arts" cinema will pick it up!

OOH AHH CANTONA!

Haha. I have never bought a jersey with Ronaldo 7. The reason is, simply because he never declared his loyalty to the club. I prefer loyal players, players that for the club with their heart. Haha. Ronaldo just isn't one of them.

I read an article somewhere (last month I believe) that listed him at #50 on the 50 top United players. Why only #50? The author said that "Real United legends don't dive or keep saying they want to play for Madrid. If he kept his mouth shut and stayed on his feet, he'd be #3". I think this sums up most diehard United fans feelings about him.

My 2 cents:

Ronaldo was an immense player, but I think his attitude off the pitch (and his petulance on it) was probably not very good for the club and locker-room atmosphere. Players come and go... we've lost greats before. But I guess never lost ones that we didn't really want to sell.

As for the money, we don't need a big name signing - we need someone to consistently supply Berba and Rooney with crosses. Look at how Rooney performs with England. Give him a central role and a player to send in the crosses and he will bang them in.

So long Ronnie. Thanks for the memories... now who going to step up and claim the number 7 jersey?

Haha one of my friends on MSN said there's one thing we don't have to worry about - what to do with the Viva Ronaldo song. He suggests:

Viva Da Silva
Viva Da Silva
When they're on the pitch
Can't tell which is which
Viva Da Silva!

A goalkeeper is seriously the least we'd have to worry about. Kuszcak and Foster are up to the task, shown in a number of games this previous season.

If SAF plays a normal 4-4-2 diamond,

-------------Foster/Kuszcak

Brown------Rio-------Vidic ----- Evra
---------------------?---------------------
Nani/Park ------------------------Tosic/Ljajic
--------------------?----------------------
------------------Berbatov
--------------Rooney
That middle question mark could prove vital to us retaining the title.

Other positions are fully equipped with great talents.
We have yet to see a replacement for the great Keano.

Those question marks can be filled by either Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson or Hargreaves. What you really don't want is the newcomers (Tosic/Ljajic) on the wings (at least initially - they can be blooded in as the season goes on). Park should take up the left flank, but I am not really sure if Nani is up to the task. Ronaldo's imminent departure has left the door wide open for him to finally prove that he's not just a Ronaldo stepover clone with no delivery. What we need is to go back to the days of knocking in crosses. Rooney can definitely get on the end of those, and Berba can follow up... and the midfielders need to get their scoring boots on cause there'll be a giant hole to fill with goals.
