Such programs have been used by many of us for a long time now. At least now TM customer service suggests it. The similar function using Windows tracert program does not work because TM has set its routers not to respond to the tracert request. And now they make it more difficult for themselves and customers by asking customers to download a program to do the same function.

Some time back when I called 100, they asked me to use the Windows tracert program. I said since they block it, I just get all * * * responses. They told me never mind, just email them the screenshot with the * * * results...

hmm...so andrew is the FIRST 1mbps user to get the premium ip allocation. anyone here as well? i might go for it if the routing is still fcked up until end of this week.

No, I read a couple of months ago some other poster saying he had 218. But the poster did not follow-up when asked about it.

I know at least 1 person on 512Kb with 218.

Could someone on 218 please try what ping times you get to 208.67.222.222?

For those experiencing current slowness, are you using OpenDNS?

Yes, this is why I have asked once before whether when people find slow downs, they are using OpenDNS, but no one replied. Try to use TM DNS for now to see if it helps a bit.

Apparently the authentication servers are down and has caused nationwide problems. No estimate of when all will be resolved.

It starts tonight 11PM tonight and ends 6AM tomorrow.

To me, this whole upgrade thing is bullshit.. Total bullshit.

They are actually doing upgrades. Whether we benefit soon is the question.

I don't think we can say that this is the final upgrade and all will be ok immediately. There may be more upgrades to come in the next weeks.

the 2nd nationwide tmnet downtime is starting in 20 mins... from the announcement it seems that the upgrade are for them to install more apps, perhaps they mean bandwidth controlling apps like higher-end BT throttling?
*
I don't think it is supposed to be a nationwide downtime. It was said that customers "may experience a disruption".

yeah, but don't confuse people by immediately saying it is a monitoring and logging tool mah....a lot of people got scared by it.

nevertheless i will contact someone in TM on the nearest working day and ask about it...will get back to all once i know the answer

The private 10.x.x.x block of IPs is being used within the TM network / infrastructure. This is done by other ISPs as well. Those routers with those private IPs do not need to be accessed directly from outside so they don't need to have public IPs. Since the routes are within the TM network, the routing will work using private IPs. This also save public IPs from being unnecessarily used as public IPs are in shortage.

Think of it as there is an entry point on one side using a public IP into the network, then things go around using private IPs and then it exits on another side on a public IP. This is considered normal. Its just that we haven't seen it before on TM.

Wtf haven upgrade complete? OMG!!!

Upgrading of a large infrastructure is not a simple process that can be done in a couple of days. As I said in another post, there may be upgrades in the next few weeks as well. Upgrades are done by areas. Then like anything else that changes, there may be some problems arising due to the upgrades which has to be sorted out. Whether we will all eventually benefit from all this, we have to see.

Also, just because TM said they are doing core network upgrade, they did not say our connections will be much better after that. They are upgrading their local backbone / network infrastructure. While some may see some improvement, the lack of international bandwidth or throttling etc etc will still cause slow connections. It seems users think that as soon as the upgrade is done, everything will be fast. I hope so, but I think the core network upgrade is mainly to cater for the upcoming HSBB. Whether the regular connections will see any improvement remains to be seen.

Could we like submit a petition to MCMC and let them force TMnuts to do something about their sucky service?

If everyone here sign the petition, we have lots of signatures.

If you haven't already, see this thread:

Maybe you can ask for a petition to be submitted.
