I bought my N82 last year. It is a very good camera phone. Picture quality is great.

But I have had 2 main problems with it in less than a year:
1) Camera trigger mechanism easily damaged. The camera actually still functions, but the hardware switch that starts the 5MP camera breaks easily. There's also no software-based way to trigger the 5MP camera. This has happened to me twice. First time I sent to the Nokia care center for them to fix. Second time just happened and I haven't fixed yet.

2) Dead pixels. Less than a year I see a few rows of dead pixels already.

Perhaps it's because I'm a rough owner, I dropped the N82 a few times, but not very high. Like maybe a book length above ground.

Anyway the phone is good as long as you take care of it.

I'm going to send my N82 to repair, but I bought a new phone W995. So far I like it more than my N82. tongue.gif

sony ewww 1month price drop rm200 that w595 xD so laoya

Haha not sure if you read wrongly, but I didn't buy W595, I bought W995. The W595 only 3.2 megapixels, while the W995 has 8 megapixels.

W995 is my 1st Sony Ericsson phone, so far quite satisfied. laugh.gif

But of course my N82 will always have a special place in my heart... wub.gif

Oh, I think only for certain SE models the price drops quickly. But for me when I buy a phone, I don't usually consider resale value as I plan to keep the phone for a long time.

hayyo, if u buy n86, sure u prefered more on n86 than w995 rolleyes.gif

Actually I did consider N86. But I read the ratings on gsmarena.com for N86 weren't as good as W995.
Then I prefer the design of the W995, smaller and brushed metal surface.

My 1.5 years old battery is almost dead.

Any big difference for N82 clone and original battery? I check the price is 5X different and wonder its performance also 5X different.

There is a camera icon in the application folder to on the 5MP camera. I put the icon in the standby bar for 1-click activation.

Doesn't that turn on the front camera, and not the 5MP camera?
It only turns on the 5MP camera if it detects the shutter is open, and that's my problem, the hardware is not triggering that information.

I believe you are taking auto-shutter like in the digital camera.
Actually I didn't mean the shutter. I meant the lens cover switch. You know the one at the back of the phone?
Yeah when I slide it, it's supposed to launch the 5MP camera right?
If it's not working, the camera application will only launch the front camera, not the 5MP camera.

I do not mean shutter is speed shutter.

We are talking to a same subject, that is lens cover switch. My Samsung camera's lens cover is auto open and close.

Yes, but the Camera application still needs the hardware to detect the 5MP shutter/switch/slider is open before it goes into 5MP mode. Otherwise it'll just use the front camera. Right?

if ur phone stil under warranty, u can send back to nokia service center to claim the warranty...

Warranty claimed once before. This is the 2nd time it happened. Still under warranty. Will go one of these days.

I'm falling in love with my N82 all over again. wub.gif

I bought a Sony Ericsson W995 last October to replace my faulty N82. My N82 had ugly black stuck pixels and the camera switch wasn't working properly.

A few days ago I took out my N82 and to my surprise, it seemed to be as good as new again. No more stuck pixels and the camera switch works fine. shocking.gif laugh.gif

So now I'm switching back to my N82 from my W995. It's a really great phone. Even though the firmware is V 20.0.062 only. blush.gif

I wonder why I can't get the latest firmware updates.
I tried using Software Updater but it says latest firmware for me is V 30.0.019.
I went Nokia Malaysia and Europe and entered my product code (0566177), also says the same thing. sad.gif

Bought a used N82 from LYN forumer recently. Quite good condition, only problem was the phone was from Romania. sweat.gif It had a funny default font and did not support Chinese/Malay input. Spent about 1 hour changing the product code to Malaysia model using NSS and then updated the firmware using Ovi Suite to V35.0.002. Now looks and functions just like local model. thumbup.gif

I think the latest firmware is V35.0.002, not v30.0.019.

You can download Nemesis Service Suite (NSS) here.
It's pretty easy to use, just follow the instructions posted by lucaswjk after installing.
I used NSS to change a Romanian firmware for N82 to Malaysian one.

Send it to Nokia Care Center. Should be fixed in 1 or 2 weeks.

Try soft reset? I've never had that problem.

I have actually more than one N82, but none of them in perfect condition. This is still one of the best camera phones, but I've also migrated to iOS/Android. smile.gif
