updated to the latest firmware v35.0.002 from last v31.0.016.

all major applications and functionality intact and working:
- outbound/inbound phone calls tested working
- sms/mms tested working
- bluetooth tested working
- wifi tested working
- a-gps & gps tested working
- *ahem* stuffs/ways are still functioning

main immediate noticeable change:
- default font for the phone has been changed. imo, it looks kinda ugly the new default font.
- phone felt faster and smoother and response time from key input felt better

im not sure why but it happens to me too
if you're sure that you followed the right path then it's ok
but the 'recalculating' word makes you panic sometimes laugh.gif

actually, this is pathfinding issue. in garmin mobile v5, you will notice this recalculating problem quite a lot. v4 is far far less. also another probability is that the path you took is not mapped correctly hence very sensitive to errors in gps route calculation. also take note that the GPS unit in phones is not as accurate or as sophisticated as dedicated GPS units. for example GPS decoders in phones like the n82 is accurate by a few metres whereas sophisticated gps decoders are accurate by centimeters.

not mapped correctly means map problem?
or izit because u said that mobile phone gps chips are accurate to few metres so the chip might be detecting us on the other road?
i know about the sensitivity since mobile phone gps chips are not as powerful as dedicated gps units
simple prove? the time used to lock satellite signal

thanks for your reply. I only encountered this recently while i have already using my n82 gps with garmin quite some times already.

Been try to change few version of mfm maps and upgrade and downgrade of garmin. It's still the same.

could that be the internal GPS hardware that is having problem?

not having problem
coz the chip is accurate to only few metres

example, garmin might tell u to go down the ramp..
but the distance between the upper and lower ramp is only few metres
so even if u go down the ramp, it might detect tat u're on the upper ramp (coz few metres difference)
then it will recalculate..
but after u go down the road for a while..it will detect tat u're on the right road
and hence ur case happens..
tat's the logic tat i can think of
not sure correct anot

never happened to me at JB and Ipoh
only KL..laugh.gif

N82 and Nokia GPS chips accuracy about +/- 9m (27-30 ft)

Latest dedicated GPS device like Garmin, Papago, etc. accuracy about 1m-3m
Older models about 3m-5m

Industrial/Military device accuracy up to 30-100 centimetres.

When using GMXT or any GPS, it is just a guidance only. Don't follow 100%. Use your own judgement and instinct.
If I follow 100%, I should have drive my car into drain, river, pond, people's house, etc.

About the go up/down ramp and left/right exit at interchange, again use your instinct and eyes. There are many times it ask to keep left and go up ramp, but the interchange is no ramp and it goes down to exit.

i do aware of garmin is just a guidance and it's still heavily rely on our instinct.
But my phone gps was working fine around 6 month as i use my n82 for navigation quite often

Then suddenly the gps accuracy is so bad and i think is more than +/- 9m (27-30 ft) hmmmm....

as long as it's usable then it's ok
even if u send for RMA, they will tell u the unit is fine
they jz test and if it's usable then they say no prob

unless u provide them with detailed technical information
then maybe they will change for u
but of coz, u'll hv to wait for a loooonnnngggg time laugh.gif

If you drive a lot and rely a lot on GPS, I suggest to get a dedicated GPS device. You can always use the GPS device directly or link it back to N82 (bluetooth).

Advantage to N82:
- Won't use up your N82 batteries
- Definitely better accuracy
