Guardiola Dedicates Champions League Victory To Milan Captain Maldini
Pep is certainly pleased to have won Europe's top club prize and has made an unexpected dedication to Calcio...

Barcelona defeated Manchester United 2-0 in the Champions League final in Rome on Wednesday. After the match, Blaugrana boss Pep Guardiola spoke about his delight at winning the trophy.

One of the first things he mentioned was the host city and a specific issue affecting Italian football at the moment; the retirement of defender Paolo Maldini.

"I dedicate this to Italian football and Paolo Maldini, who need not worry because he has the admiration of all of Europe," the victorious boss told RAI Sport.

The Milan captain was insulted by some Rossoneri fans during his final match at San Siro this past weekend, something that reportedly angered the former Italian international, who is on the verge of ending his 24 year career.

Guardiola knows Maldini from his playing days in Italy, where he had stints with both Brescia and Roma in the early part of the decade.

"I'm experiencing a great joy, it's been a pleasure to win it in Roma, a hug to all Italians," he said in conclusion.

Figo n Nedved are 2 great players no doubt, but for me they never be as legendary as Maldini, Paolo is juz in a totally different level. Feel free to open up any thread to dedicate to them though. biggrin.gif

i've been a fan of milan since 1998, still a newbie. never really watch him play in his early days, but everytime he's in the first-11 makes me feel that milan is secure. stam - maldini - nesta - cafu (sorry i forgot the exact formation tongue.gif), i've watched em all played together and when they do, milan defence is unbreakable. im sure it was wayyy better when there was baresi.

sadly, i've always wanted a milan shirt with maldini's name on, but till now i still cant afford one. my only milan genuine shirt is season 98/99, the first year i know ac milan.

well every story has to end, i guess now what we have to do is wait for a few years, and see whether christian maldini can do as good as his father. farewell paolo maldini!

This guy was a legend when I was a kid, he played during Maradona's time. I don't follow European football that closely, so when I see the name Paolo Maldini name in paper I thought it was a different player with same name, shocked when I learnt it's the same guy, still playing top level football.

GRAZI3 IL CAPITANO..COURE DE DRAGO

I was teary when I watch the last match against Fiorentina..watching you and Sandro guarding the defence again, just like the usual..But now Sandro is back, but things wont be the same again without you..

Oh I can still remember well those days..the 1994 World Cup Final vs Brazil..the Barca 4-0 demolition..the controversial 2002 World Cup (until now I hate Koreans and Ecuadorians), then another Champions League victory against rival Juve in 2003...then your early goal against Liverpool in Istanbul..

It's like just yesterday you nutmegged Reginna defenders and scored a brace..and the moment you lift up the big-eared trophy in Athens and the Club World Cup in Japan later..

Those are the finest moments which I will always remember, and one day will be told to my children..that there are legends...
