I just got my iphone roughly 2 months ago and the phone bill is really killing me! I'm currently using the 3gs and one thing I'd like to check: how do we know whether the iphone is running on either E/3g? The E/3g signal at the top left is grey coloured when phone not in use and when I use the phone (e.g. sms and stuffs), it turns to blue. Does this means that the Edge or 3g is running?

Basically, does all applications in iphone is charged into our phone bill? Currently, I'm using the family plan. Would it be better if I convert it to the iData plan?

Please advice me as my bill monthly is around 400+! I would really consider selling the phone away!!  vmad.gif

If the E/3G logo is shown, that means that you're able to connect to internet (the colour of it doesn't matter).

If the application you used are with push notification or will load any content of internet (e.g. mail, safari, youtube etc) you will be charge for the amount of data you used.

Best solution for you is to get data plan add-on or call Maxis to disable cellular data for your account.

cheers.

p.s. No offence, but I still can't get it why some ppl can use iPhone without any access to internet or subsribe to data plan doh.gif
internet connectivity is required in order to maximise the usage of these smart phones (i.e. iPhone, Android, Blackberry, WebOS and etc)
Please do some research before jumping on this platform just because it is cool sweat.gif , be a smart user thumbup.gif

Then is it possible to track the internet usage of the iphone? Cause I would like to know roughly how much Ive used per month to apply the idata plan.

And also, disable cellular data doesn't help a thing. I've closed 3g function, and it uses gprs. Bill is a total nonsense! So how do I activate the idata plan? Calling 123 does anything??

To track usage go to Setting>General>Usage (I reset it every month to track my monthly usage)

Turning off 3G doesn't mean that you're disabling cellular data. To disable cellular data completely you need to call maxis to disable it for you.
as for adding data plan to your line, I'm not to sure what is required, just give maxis a buzz
