Hi all, I'm on Celcom and found that iphonenodata does not work but when I tested DIGI ok. So right now I am trying with Fake APN and using SBSettings to turn off 3G/Edge. So far data usage is 0 for the past 24 hours. Don't know if this is effective to totally stop data usage.

Need advise from those on Celcom. When I asked them to remove 3G/Edge from my line 1) they said I need to change to 2G SIM card 2) When I went their service centre they said its not possible to change to 2G card anymore, all 3G card. If I really want to remove 3G I need to terminate the account and start a new one. Why can't they just turn it off via their system if Maxis can do it?.

I ask the Celcom operator, she said Celcom MNP user cannot disable 3G/EDGE services.WTF
but thanks to FakeAPN, problem solved smile.gif

Hi TeK_KeN, FakeAPN can work on your Celcom line?. It doesn't seem to work on my side, I can still access the internet and under the Usage still show values increase.

Hi TeK_Ken, thanks for the thorough tip. I didn't know under SBSettings there is something to turn on/off fakeAPN. I'll give it a try again. I think thats the one I need to turn on on SBSettings.

Added on January 20, 2010, 4:08 pmSorry TeK_Ken, how do you add in the fakeAPN into the SBSettings toggle so that you can on/off, I can't seem to find it. Thanks.

welcome
that fakeAPN u need to install manually from Cydia.

OK thanks. I managed to dl it from Cydia then toggle on fakeAPN. Monitored for few hours and saw data usage Send and Received 1.0KB already so looks like doesn't work for me. I saw your screen shots the Celcom carrier bundle (with logo) is installed, I wonder if its due to that?.

I'm a celcom prepaid user. SBSettings+fakeAPN totally work on me. I'm using 3.1.2 FW. Easy to use, just switch on/off when u need it! biggrin.gif

did u get any Data IP Address?
if u get any, then maybe the fakeAPN didnt work for u
I also have no idea if the carrier bundle version will effect this

btw, im on FW 3.0.1 and using carrier CELCOM 3.1

Weird thing is sometimes my SbSettings don't show any Data IP address but still can surf so quite hard to check on this.

Then i find it weird because I have disabled Edge and Wifi plus have reset the counter and I tested I can't surf, then I re-enabled the Wifi and started surfing but the counter started counting.

From what I observed wifi will not add into the data usage count.

My findings for SBSettings turn off both 3G and Edge + FakeAPN on my side, found no Data IP address but sometimes Data IP address will come out. So I presume whenever the Data IP address appears again then data usage count will increase and iPhone accessing something online.

Hello guys, seems a lot of information here smile.gif

Anyhow, here's my current setup:

- I purchased my iPhone from outside and I put in my own Celcom 3G sim card
- I subscribed to Celcom data plan RM38/mo for 500MB
- As a long time Celcom 3G user, I can say Celcom 3G is about 80% satisfactory and the 3G connection in my iPhone is within expectation of what Celcom can offer (but their EDGE is almost unusable, LOL)
- For this 1st month, I used about 150MB of data only with 3 weeks of billing cycle to go. I guess I need to turn on the 3G more, haha!
- No, Celcom will not charge for excess data. They will only do their magic called 'throttling'. Been there, done that.

On issues on FakeAPN or what not:
- If your iPhone is non-JailBroken, by default it will continue to 'accidentally' download data whether it's on GPRS (O), EDGE (E) or 3G.
- For JailBroken iPhone with SBSettings done correctly, any attempt to download data will result in error "not connected to the internet"
- FakeAPN? I've tried it before and it did not work. I imagine this was specific to a Celcom sim card, I can't speak for Maxis or DIGI sims.

I probably can show the snapshot of SBSettings that I know is working for me.

Yes, FakeAPN does not work for my Celcom but on Digi I have tested yes can work. SBSettings I turn off both 3G and Edge but data usage meter still go up. Sometimes I found there is Data IP sometimes no, so I assume when suddenly there is Data IP then usage will go up.

I have installed Data Toggle and previously it was on version 1.0 where they set your Data IP to 1.1.1.0, recently they have updated it to version 1.1 and now the Data IP is 127.0.0.1, anyone know why they changed it this way?. Thanks.
