Have you turned off your Cellular Data(option is only available in iOS4)?..If you haven't turn it off,then you will need to turn it off to avoid you getting connected to the internet..To do so,follow these steps :-I have turned off my "Data Roaming" and currently I have no "Wi-Fi" surrounds me.

* Tap the Settings icon
* Tap General
* Tap Network
* Slide Cellular Data to "off".
