alternatively, if yours' is an unjailbroken phone, just go to This Thread, and just do what it says there. first, Enable Carrier Bundle Support in iTunes, then download the .ipcc file that is required. then follow the tutorial on how to install it.
when it's installed, you can alter your APN setting, and then you'll never again activate EDGE/3G unknowingly.
