if you are using the VOIP service via fring, the consequences are the same.

Yes but your theory has not been proven. The data plan I used for skype over 3g proofs to be correct on my phone usage indicator and bill. Why the huge difference when it comes to fring which is used only for messaging and not voice.

once maxis has determined a course of action, for your case, i highly recommend that you remove the term "scam" from this thread's title.

it is extremely misleading and doesn't hold any water to a certain extend.
*
Well it hasn't happened to you. Just imagine being billed for calls that you did not make. Or being billed rm250 more when your phone says you have not met your data plan. Imagine one day when you thought you have only used 100 mb but being billed for 2gb. Are you going to just keep quiet and pay and do nothing? Sorry I need to voice out some how else we would all be blindly surfing or making skype calls and at the end of the month slapped with a huge bill.

For now I am presuming that maxis has miscalculated on my usage because I have two maxis iPhones - almost the same data usage or type of application is being used. Apparently one does not match the bill received.

You are right it is improper to use the word scam but a particular cs lady in maxis just pissed me off. Will take it down once a friend of mine in maxis has investigated on this. But seriously this kind of events is happening all around. In the mean time I will leave it on to tell users to go below about 200mb of their monthly data plan just to be safe.

This happened before and have been ongoing for quite a lot of people. I myself had been billed wrongly on data usage due to change of plans so I'm not surprised for something like your case to happen as well.

What you can do is, be consistent and keep calling up the maxis call centre (every 1-2 days?), keep track of the calls (time that you called and what you have told them) since there's recording going on during the conversation. Once they manage to escalate this to a supervisor/manager/whoeverthinksthattheyhavehigherauthority, they will search back the recording (yes every call are recording whether u like it or not) and get a better understanding on the issue. Do becareful with Maxis terms, when this case drags on for weeks and you pass the billing payment date, they MIGHT (<-- read pls) cut off ur line and saying that you didn't clear your bill (Clearly, Maxis internal team doesn't communicate to each other at all).

Seriously, I'm not bad mouthing Maxis nor i dislike Maxis (8 years with Maxis now and I'm happy with their services and products) but human errors plays a huge role in escalating and also getting problems fixed.

Just my 2 cents anyway, take it or leave it.

All the best to you TS.

TS, i believe the iPhone's data counter is not accurate. It was probably meant to track data movement in Safari, App Store and iTunes or any other default iPhone apps.

When you JB and use the 3rd party apps, there is a possibility that the data counter does not track the data use by those said apps.

Again..this is one possibility.

This could be true poyol but I need feedback from guys who have jailbreak their iPhones & use 3rd part apps - and whether their counter differs from their bills or is the same. It is the only way we would know if the iPhone data counter can be dependable to track usage - if not what is the variabce - 100MB / 200MB? Else we will all be very afraid to use surf / chat or even play games - afraid that we may exceed the data plan rate.

the 5MB on an iPhone is nothing. The iPhone can suck 5MB without you knowing in a couple of minutes.

Yes the unlimited plan is the way to go... the RM250 paid - it could already pay for 2 1/2 months of unlimited Data with maxis. rclxub.gif

hahaha... I have heard stories where people in singtel got a bill of SG15000 for data usage. So basically we have to be very careful when it comes to telcos. Got to know your rights and what we are allowed and not allowed. The maxis bill is pretty long and complicating journey to look into but it is best to scrutinies it.

I had almost the same experience as Derlin did.... but my case was the SMS subscription issues (like those 32332 numbers).
I never subscribed to any of those 3rd-party numbers' subscriptions, but I was billed several consecutive months of those SMS received.

Things just happened, and I had made a lots of calls to Cusotmer Service to ask for rebate of those money, as I never ever used it.
Months after months... those accumulated SMS money became nearly RM80, and my previous months money was never rebated at all.
After 1st or 2nd month of tracking my bills, I noticed that Maxis was never actually taken any action towards my complains. Therefore,
I recorded down all my calls log (what date, what time, who attended my call, what issue I reported etc.).

On my last call to Maxis Customer Service, I made another complain again towards my issues, and almost every month I received the
same feedback from their Customer Service, which was my rebate will be given back in the next month bill (which they never had previously).
At last... I could not stand them anymore, I just told them (kinda threathening) "either you rebate me on my next billing, otherwise I will terminate all my lines (I had total of 8 lines)".

So, the next time, FINALLY I got back all my rebates... After that, I terminated all my lines also due to my personal reasons.
That's my experience with Maxis. I believe such situation happens everywhere, any telcos due to their lack of communications within the dept. or company.

Cheers... Hope you will be more careful of your own usage, otherwise switch to UNLIMITED plan for safety whistling.gif

This is well known make sure u turn off your data pushing in your iphone settings when u doesn't need it. The iPhone it self always push for latest app updates, emails and weather... so bare in mind, u never know how much it will use. Luckly i'm also on Digi unlimited plan =p. Loving it when using map! laugh.gif

i really hate Maxis.. simply charge customer with no reason.. asked them to show me the prove.. but can't able to produce then told me to see their manager if wanna rebate.. mad.gif

Hi guys,esp Yewjin..

Yup,I am also on iValue 100 and I was hit pretty hard by the data charges. Here the story...
14/4 - Got the Iphone and signed up iValue 100.00 only
16/4 - Signed up unlimited data plan ( very lucky I signed up )

Was happily surfing till 14/5 when I cannot sms/call out. Called up 123 and was informed my line was barred as over usage. As I have yet to receive their statement,I ask them to fax over and got the biggest shocked of my life....which is on 15/4,their system shows I incurred 2,000.00 over MB on data service, from 5pm to 8 pm,same day.

I complained to Maxis Kota Bharu staff and show them my Iphone data usage from 14/4 to 14/5 was less than 450MB. That why luckily I signed up unlmited data on 2nd da otherwise god only knows my utter frustration.

Since they are the king,I just paid up to get my line unbar and complained again to 123. Also sms them their service rating as 1 (very horrible).
Till now it is still unresolved....

My guess is to call them every other day to ensure that they look into this issue.

Some of the MAXIS CS are really unhelpful. I keep dropping the call and calling 123 again if ever I noticed the CS executive seems blur or unfriendly but there are some who would really go all of their way to help you out. Keep trying NXaqua. We as customers have the right to dispute and not blindly pay what they bill us.

yeah WTF? isn't the RM99 an unlimited plan? Now they are saying pay RM99 and get 3GB only. Frankly I know some applications on cydia can use up that 3GB in no time.

from my years of using different network providers (both local and abroad), calling the respective customer service is only useful and effective to a certain extend.

i will give my own personal take in regards to this. if you are calling to make simple inquiries in regards to call plans, latest offers et cetera, calling them up is sufficient. having said that, anything more complicated and if it remains unresolved, it is best to head to the main (observe this term) branch.

in this case, yes you may see a lot of maxis branches, but they are not operated by maxis. they are merely agents with mandate handed out by maxis. hence, it makes more sense to go to the flagship store in klcc. patronise the store during office hours when a manager in charge is more likely to be present. only a personnel with authority has the level to escalate your concerns to the correct channel.

i'm not sure how maxis works, but major network providers around the world, typically subcontract their customer service to a (if not a few) company which specialises in providing these telephone supports. whilst this idea sounds fool proof as it benefits both parties economically, but it also poses some distinct flaws. since these customer service providers are third parties and not directly linked to the network, there are some issues which can prove to be sticky and complicated.

furthermore these consultants are usually part timers and being inexperienced, they can only convey to you what is stipulated on their userguide in front of them. no one can anticipate out of the ordinary, and therefore solutions to that problem may not be embedded in their userguide. of course a good trick (as mentioned above), is to call a few times until you encounter someone more experienced or more ethically responsible to find out or escalate the issue for you.

however when you are paid like crap, and expect to keep your cool with immature and inconsiderate customers yelling profanities at you the entire day, it is not difficult to put yourself in their shoes.

i know this fact for sure, because my ex girlfriend used to work for this so-called third party provider on behalf of vodafone uk. my current provider in australia is virgin (or optus) and their customer service is based in philippines FYI.
