Just to share. when i arrive singapore 3 years back.. i got my EP direcly. My salary near to 1.5k only and i am holding degree. EP or S-Pass really depend on how good your employer write about your knowledge.
Almost everyone in my company getting EP with low salary but things seems to change since last year as new employee getting S-pass

Maybe not now, if you're early in your careers. But maybe later when you're on the same multi-functional team, or leadership team. Workplace politics is not a great respecter of departmental boundaries.

Stay away? Is that how you deal with your competitors?

Something tells me if you and I compete, I won't be the one who needs to stay away.

i am sorry to get this abit personal but u sound like a person will do whatever things to win. even with dirty way.

hope i am wrong.

QUOTE(crapp0 @ Jan 30 2010, 09:34 AM)
Anybody know what may be the outcome if..

Say one fella send in resignation letter giving 1 month, the boss ask the fella to postpone his resignation to 2 month while sending him on special assignment in order to try to convince him to stay, the boss by asking him to extend his resignation in order to let him think about it doesnt really accept his letter of resignation.

But the fella dont care about the offer and left according to the letter of resignation and the company has yet to accept his letter of resignation or even verbally agree to it and his permit to the company is still valid for another year.
*
Here is the catch... if you send resignation letter, the boss must take it, unless he returned to you and you keep it. If he take it and it is consider accepted.
If he dun wanna take and just leave it on his desk also consider already.

Singapore Employeement say the boss must take the resignation letter.

verbal agreement to entend the resignation not really use. it just matter of trust between boss and employee.

Well if he din clear thing up with the boss and the boss does not cancel the permit. he will have lots of trouble getting permit for another company.

Like trump used to say, "Its not personal, its business".

If prefer the quote in the movie "taken". Poetic justice.

I believe that singaporeans enjoy food more then malaysians since their deprive of good food and are willing to travel to malaysia to kind nice makan places.
*
But food in Singapore is terible or maybe because i am from penang. I cant really find good food here.. any place to recomend ?

QUOTE(crapp0 @ Jan 30 2010, 06:39 PM)
So isnt there a contradiction if say the fella send in his resignation letter but the boss wont even touch it, but according to singapore employment, the boss has to take it? Or is that in the physical sense?

The fella couldnt be bothered, he just send in his letter, wait for the time and left according to his letter, i believe that the boss of that company didnt cancel the permit, will have to ask another fren about that.

If the boss didnt accept and didnt cancel the permit, whats the worst that can happen, assuming the fella doesnt want 2 work in singapore, ever. Will his name be in a blacklist in mom?

Also, i know a guy who used to work here and then got kicked out due to insorbordination, when the guy left, he didnt pay his telephone bills to the point that multiple lawyer letters have been sent to his old residency. Now that he's back with a job in IR, he should be in the clear since due payments of services like mobiles services doesnt seem to be updated to MOM. If not he wouldnt be able to get a job here again.
*
MOM says:
Rejection of Employee's Resignation

An employer cannot reject an employee's resignation. The employee has the right to resign at any time by serving the required notice or by compensating the employer salary in-lieu of notice. Failure of the employer to allow an employee to leave his service is an offence. The employer shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both.

------------------------------------------------
I still recommend that fella to clear everything about the work permit with MOM before he leave singapore. I dont know the process but I know it is very troublesome.

If you leave the all the bill unsettle, one day all this going to come back to you. Eg. Malaysia Gov work with Sg Gov to blacklist.
U will not get any loan for car or house in future.

In Malaysia, people used to ignore credit card bill and jump to another bank. now it all intergrated. one bank blacklist your.. all the bank will know

Just had a chat with the fellas colleague, seems that the boss wants to screw with the fella so he didnt cancel the permit. Usually banks have a higher authority then service providers. But it seems that its ok since like i said the other guy is already working in singapore again eventhough he has outstanding mobile bills.
*
To mobile company. it not really much lost to them.. they just add the interst every month and send you lawyer letter(and bill you for the lawyer letter).
until one day it reach a certain limit and they will obtain arrest warranty. You can continue your degree in Singapore jail.

Continue your degree in jail?
*
Yeah, Singapore jail offer diploma and degree programs.
You wanna signup ? Go to police station and punch an officer there.
And you will gain your eligibility to the program.
Most important it is FREE to study.

So you graduate from the Jail without any study loan..
Great deal ?

not really. although I owned a day car, I seldom drive to work even though they provided me with free parking, opting for Co transport instead. unless I'm require to work urgently on odd hours.
*
i am riding in singapore.

i dont think own a car here worth the price.
about 20K COE + 30 Car + 30k(parking of 300/month)= 10 year of car.
80K for 10 year, you can take about 30-50 dollar taxi per day.

Thanks Lester, I got to know from CC thread that DBS has lowest income requirement for foreigner at $45k pa.

For those who work in SG, do you go to Johor to get your groceries? Will the price be "cheaper" this way?

Added on May 9, 2010, 11:30 am
Thanks Sean. If I do not qualify to apply for SG CC, do you think its okay to use MY CC in SG? The cons I could think of is 1. extra admin charges incurred for overseas spending, 2. troublesome - need to transfer money from SG to MY bank to pay bills

Reason I'm asking about using CC in SG is because I got used to paying via CC in MY, as it is very convenient for me, no need to brings lots of cash & I only need to pay once per month. Plus I get cash rebates for my spending too.
*
You can pay by Nets.. most of the shop allow pay by nets. In fact they prefer nets over CC.

i am referring to post paid plans. not sure if that applicable to prepaid plans or not. for post paid plans, u get ur free local mins and u just need to pay $5 extra every month from ur phone bill and u can use the 018 service.
*
SH prepaid 128, you will have $28 to call international(so far i only call msia) using 018 at local rate and 100 Free local call.

It think it is cheaper compare to SH post paid. . .considering $5 + local call charges.

Just a quick question, does anyone here have any idea if I could open a savings bank account (with DBS) with just my passport and MoM's Approved-In-Principal letter for my EP pass?
Fyi I have my medical report ready, just that my appointment with the MoM is another 12days away + a few days for it to be processed, so it would be at least another 2 weeks or more before I would get my EP card.

P/S: Btw, I have already started working so I would prefer to have an account opened as soon as I could.

Cheers.
*
Err...... I opened my POSB account without EP or PR. I just tell them, I am here to do some business and need people to bank in for me and I need to pay people via online banking.

I managed to open the account after 2 hour sitting in the bank filling bunch of forms.....

I only learn that there is lots of fraud case to use ur bank account for other purpose that y it take so long and so hard to open account when you do not have EP or PR.
