Are there any career fairs in sg early next year? So far I only know one which is Singapore Career & Training around March. Waiting for the JobsDB one which should be around the same time also? Last 2 years they held it in March and January (2009 and 2008 respectively).

Anybody going to the JobsDB career fair on the 26th? How is the job market currently? I got a friend who told me last year a lot of companies were only hiring locals/PR and it was very hard for him to get a job.

Keppel is under the "marine" industry. And this year they paying out 9 months bonus. But i think 2010 wont be so hot since in 2009 they had at least 4 FPSO projects, this year currently 2 are active, another ship is under going preparation for the conversion.
*
My friend told me that the monthly salary at Keppel not that high, so that's why they can afford to give out such high monthly bonuses. For KFELS, I believe its bad because they haven't secured much contracts so they are working off their orderbook. But I heard recently they got a huge contract from Petrobras, 1bln or more. Then I started to see KFELS ads looking to hire Malaysian SPM leavers to be trained to work in their shipyard (check Jobstreet) so definitely they are up to something big. Petrobras currently the only major company still investing in building rigs, but oil prices have stabilized so maybe things will get better soon.

Decided to go to Job fair this Saturday. Anybody can share insight on how their PAPERLESS system works? The official website don't have any info.

Also, what's fun to do for an afternoon at Sg? Sentosa sounds rather boring...everything also need to pay $$$. Me and my friend DSLR kaki so we wanna go take lots of pics.

In interesting to see vitriol directed at the company by Singaporeans. I believe they got their facts wrong, KFELS only looking to employ untrained labour for their shipyards, the manufacturing, mechanical engrg job is from a diff company but made to look as if from KFELS as well.

Petrobras still in the process of awarding contracts. They must have secured even more I guess, with this kind of hiring. Anyway conditions are much better now than when I was there 1 year ago, at least now can get contracts.

Anyway they are hiring fresh grads currently, consolidating all applications. Those who are interested to work in marine engrg should submit to the HR there. I'm hoping to be called for interview =)

Working with Keppels shipyard guys now in a project. I can see that the trend now they are turning to many foreigners such as Burmese and Bangladeshi for posts like Engineers, designers and also supervisors. I think Malaysian will stand a high chance ... yes its true like what they said pay is not that high .

A few foreigners came as trade workers .. some stay for 6-10 years, now they are called Engineers. I think they are doing not bad. They would prefer Malaysian but many Malaysian probably can't stand on the pay scale...
*
What is the pay scale over there? Since you are working there...is is the same for Shipyard and FELS?

QUOTE(giorgene @ Mar 23 2010, 08:49 AM)
the petrobras contract awarded to keppel FELS singapore or keppel FELS brazil?
AFAIK, the contract is awarded to keppel FELS brazil, not singapore.
*
Correct to FELS in brazil but the engineering work will be done worldwide anyway. And maybe not all blocks will be made there, some will be done in FELS SG and shipped there. Brazil requires high % of local content, but not to 100% extent.

how high is the pay at Keppels? i heard my friend said fresh grad 3k? isn't that quite high?
*
They have Management Trainee program. From what I hear 3+K only for Sg Male cos they need to undergo NS. Msian the figure probably closer to 2.3-2.5k, which is still pretty good considering Intel pays RM2.8 for 2nd class upper. Anyway hoping wseng can share more on this.

BTW how is the production dept like? My friends tell me is hell, but learn a lot. He jumped to Mech engrg after a few years. I scared I can't join Mech Engrg cos my degree is in Manufacturing Engrg.

If given a choice between working in Keppel FELS (rig fabricator) vs working in Kencana Pinewell (malaysian ong service provider) which one would be the better choice?

Can anyone shed some light on Starhub's $5 free calls to 18 destinations including Malaysia. What are the hidden charges? Seems rather far fetched that I pay $5 and can chat as much as I want with friends and family from Malaysia.

Wah that is damn tat loh! Last time i call they deducted from my intl credit, i end up with hundreds of dollars of local calls that I never use. Thx...this means I can just buy their $28 pack and get $100 to call back as often as I want. Can probably last a few months, hehe.

Why would people consider their postpaid plans with this kind of good deal? The free phones aren't really free anyway since its factored into your monthly payment already.

Ahh I get it now...you can call international at local rates, but they minus off from your international balance...means I will still get stuck with hundreds of dollars worth of local $$$ I can't use finish, haha.

Incidentally has anyone got SIP working with Android or Apple devices? With proliferation of data plans, it could mean far cheaper calls than even the telcos can provide, maybe at expense of call quality/lag.
