QUOTE(giorgene @ May 23 2009, 09:20 AM) im thinking to find a single room, is that possible i can get it at $400 around jurong side? yes, it's possible...and top up a little to $450, you might get yourself a air con room. good luck hunting rooms and oh ya... start making a lot of calls to agents/owners

i went singapore last week to check out the room that my agent recommended and it turns out to be really beyond my worst expectation. The HDB unit in Jurong West is supposedly a 3 rooms unit, but the owner has somehow partition it into a 5 rooms unit. Each rooms is twin sharing!! is this even allowed in singapore??
That's not the worst part....The agreement (luckily not signed yet), stated that light cooking is allowed, but when my gf ask about how "light" is light cooking, the owner says only we only allow to boil water and cook instant noodles!!!!!!
Thank God the agent managed to get back my deposit...
We went around Bukit Batok, Red Hill and Jurong West area to hunt for rooms, but the more rooms we see, the worse it gets... Some ads say aircon is provided means that standing air cooler is provided. Some single male owners insisted ONLY LADY tenant is allowed??!! that unit is filled with Vietnamese labors...
Is getting a room with decent housemates THAT HARD in spore??? My maximum budget is $700. Is this too low to get a decent place?
My new job in spore is starting next week and yet to find a place to stay. I'm OFFICIALLY screwed.

I'm staying with landlord also... but they are not too particular about utilities bills... they only thing they are particular is the usage of internet!! sigh~ i also dont know why since it's unlimited plan. anyway, the reason is because they keep mumbling about modem been switch on for too long, will burn easily....
so, guys, i'm planning to get my own mobile broadband.. any recommendation?
I used to subscribed to Celcom and Umobile broadband, and it SUCKS especially at night... how about here? which Telco gives the best service and yet value for money?

QUOTE iPhone available to Starhub customers from Wednesday By Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 07 December 2009 1250 hrs
SINGAPORE: StarHub will make available the iPhone to its subscribers from Wednesday.
It will also offer a range of new 3G mobile plans to meet the different needs of iPhone customers for voice, SMS and data usage.
iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G models will be available for free on the 3G SmartSurf Unlimited plan with a two-year contract.
Altogether, four new 3G SmartSurf price plans will be introduced.
Local data usage charges are capped at S$48 monthly.
Customers who have pre-registered for the iPhone will be given priority.
but i thought M1 made the iphone announcement earlier than Starhub? Funny... where's M1 price plan?

guys... need your views on my current situation.
I'm on EP with company A and I just accepted another offer from company B who is willing to apply EP or transfer EP for me. The problem is, company A does not want to release me. So, can company A bond me with EP until the EP expiration date?
Are you tied down to contract bond?

Yeah, how is the current company "not releasing" you?

It is stated in the MOM, that employer have to accept the employee resignation for whatever reason. I check that out during my last resignation.
Rejection of Employee's Resignation
An employer cannot reject an employee's resignation. The employee has the right to resign at any time by serving the required notice or by compensating the employer salary in-lieu of notice. Failure of the employer to allow an employee to leave his service is an offence. The employer shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both.
Compensation from employees for terminating a contract
Contracts that require employees to pay a monetary compensation (in addition to notice pay) to the employer for terminating the contract before the completion of a specified period are not covered by the Employment Act. An employee can resign at any time by serving the required notice in accordance with the provisions in the employment contract.
The terms pertaining to monetary compensation (in addition to the notice pay) for terminating the contract prematurely is a contractual term and not governed by the Employment Act. Where there are disputes, the civil court will have jurisdiction in deciding the outcome. But I'm not sure this applies to employment under EP. My company pays CPF even when I'm holding EP. It's not a must for the employer to contribute CPF when they hire you under EP. See how you nego with your company during hiring/interview.
