greetings, future owner here brows.gif just want to ask some things before i make my purchase:

1. i need to use the GPS function frequently around KL and Klang Valley areas. is the phone's GPS function good? accurate?

2. how is the phone's performance compared to other phones in the same price range? e.g. N82, SE C905

3. how is the battery life with frequent GPS usage, phone calls and smses?

4. any recommendations on where to buy? will the shop include Garmin software?

5. read somewhere that new batch of 5800 has earpiece fix, and new screen for better finger navigation, is that new batch out?

Thanks

1. Its pretty decent. Of course, cannot compare with a standalone GPS but its good enough.

2) Have no idea... haven't tried the other phones.

3) If you use GPS, confirm that day itself the battery drained. Life average is 1 day. Yes you have to charge everyday. For me, moderate usage I can get 2 days.

4) some dude called e_trade_pj or smtg like that... yea he does include for you.

5) the new batch is out since early this year... btw the time i bought in March its already fixed.

thanks for the reply smile.gif
will it be fine if i use the GPS function in the car while charging it with the car charger?
is e_trade_pj the most recommended seller around? so far i found 2 sellers, one is e_trade_pj, another is jc something, selling 5800 at RM1140 but without car charger i think.

and about the fix, is it for the earpiece problem only, or include the induction display as stated as well?

On April 17, 2009 DigiTimes reported that Nokia plans to release Nokia 5800 with induction display instead of resistive one which is used in the original model. According to Mobile-Review.com, induction display is believed to be more fit for thumb operation where stylus is not used. New model is expected to ship in May or June of 2009.[13] In mid-May 2009, DigiTimes has written that new induction sensor screen components for Nokia are about to be produced by Synaptics.

just remember make sure u do not have V-cool at 90% it will effect the GPS performance.

PLEASE NOTE THAT A PHONE GPS COMES WITH A NEGATIVE THING IS.

A standalone GPS takes like 5 to 30 sec to lock to GPS

When phone might take 10mins to 20 mins to lock depending on your location and if u want fast lock u can use a-gps and it comes with a cost
*
just start the app 10 or 20 minutes before i need to use it biggrin.gif
will it be fine for me to charge it while using it in the car?
i do not have tinting in my car so it should not be a problem. i will PM e_trade_pj when i need to get the phone. thanks for the advice notworthy.gif

Can use but just can't use the 3G. Their 3G network is on a different frequency.
Its just a rumour la bro. Its not gonna happen. If it doesn, Nokia will come out with a new model maybe Nokia 5900XM and increase the price.

thank you for the clarification, can't believe all the things written on wikipedia nowadays, can we? smile.gif

nah. If u always try to chase technology future u end up poor.
Imagine the amount of depreciation value everytime u change phone.

U take that money u invest and imagine the interest will allow you to buy a new phone every month.

It doesnt depreciate like RM 20 or RM 50 everytime it goes down its like RM 150 to RM300 or more.

true. i am still considering whether want to change to this phone or not after using my K700i for 4 years

For me i prefer 2nd hand phones. You imagine a new one is RM 1200
a 2nd hand cost maybe RM 900.

I buy the RM 900 and after 6months i can still sell like RM 800- 900 if i am lucky
A used one u can never sell back at the retail price.
See the depreciation value there

2nd hand RM50- RM100
1st hand RM400.
*
i prefer new phone though, as i do not mind much about the depreciation part. i can use a phone for several years before changing a new one nod.gif
in seven years i have only changed my phones twice

Hey guys,

You all read the post in dailymobile.se.  If we remove the back cover, the pics are quite good.  I mean can see the difference.  But personally, who wants to remove the back cover each time we take pics?  Must get a more practical solution.

Wah 7 years, man my fingers are too itchy to last that long wink.gif

i believe that this phone is only meant for casual snapshots, unlike other 5MP cameraphones available in the market. if consumers are looking for a good cameraphone in the same price range, they can go for N82 or N79, but they lose the 3.2" touchscreen tongue.gif

hehe, if you have the money, you can change often, like my friend, i think about 10 times already in the past few years. he can change to a new phone again after using a newly bought phone for a week

Hey guys,

you know the new nokia 5530?  Does it have gps?  and what do you all think the pricing will be like....maybe can convince my gf to get it so i can play and compare to our 5800.  Haha

edit: ok no gps or 3g.  It better be really cheap if not totally not worth it
*
i like the design but too bad, no GPS, no 3G, does not even have LED flash iianm (but has WLAN)
basically it's a stripped down version of 5800XM. it will be weird if they selling a non-3G phone at RM800+ pricetag

I have a friend with an N-gage QD.
He's used to typing messages and dialing a number that way. I tried it and it was not confusing or disorienting, it's just weird and quite un-ergonomic. ALmost impossible to use with one hand.
*
N-gage QD was fine with me, but the old N-gage really shakehead.gif holding a currypuff on ear when talking doh.gif
back to topic, any recommendations on what kind of protection to use for 5800XM? thinking of a normal SP with capdase soft jacket. any better alternative?

what about the Oil-finish Rubberized Cover?any feedbacks from people using it?im aslo looking for a cover
*
had my eye on that, but found out that it is actually a hard cover, not soft. afraid that it might scratch the phone and accumulate dust as what the crystal casing did to my K700i before. furthermore, the bulk seemed to have some issues, the items reached the buyers in bad condition, had cracks and all. perhaps the seller would be more careful in the future but i'd rather be going for a soft cover for now smile.gif

I don't know if you consider it better but I'd go with a jacket and no SP.
Saves a bit of money, and the screen is actually quite scratch resistant.

The only special care I did with the phone is not to wipe the screen to often(and with a fine cloth), and putting it in a pocket and not letting anything else in that pocket.
*
may I ask why aren't you opting to use a SP? it is better to have extra protection, right? smile.gif
and why can't we wipe the screen often? I thought touch screen phones are prone to finger prints and oil stain sad.gif

i was asking for recommendations myself laugh.gif
thought of getting Zagg Invisible Shield, but it is blardy expensive and does not fully protect the phone, and don't know where to get it as well (including installation). the next alternative is to get Capdase soft jacket.
