Warranty is usually your best bet. Buy an unmodded xbox 360 from a shop that can provide you with MS warranty and youre set.

PS2 was pretty bad if i recall. I spent money buying 3 of those. But since they have like 3 month warranties (modded), I couldnt return them for repair.

Unfortunately electronic devices break. And unfortunately the problem is microsoft not releasing the 360 here officially. Which stems from that malaysia is just known for its piracy. But, that of course is another debate.

Microsoft definitely did the bad, by releasing a wounded product in the market. But they admitted the flaw and are provided 3 year warranties for it. When I was in Japan it took me only a week to send the box and get it back good as new. It costs a lot of money to provide service like that, and so you have to give ms credit for that at least. I only wish that ms would launch the 360 officially here!

I personally think they're no evil or good companies out there. Nintendo, Sony and MS are all the same. Going for your money and will always prioritize the health of the company over yours.

And piracy personally for me is a no no, though i realize piracy is already a culture here. Me, being a software engineer, it'd be sad to know that all the hard work and hours we put in a product, only ends up as cash in the hands of a bunch of measly pirates. Using the car analogy before. Imagine you build a new car, your pride and joy. Suddenly someone steals it and just sells it for a few hundred as scrap metal at the chop shop.
