I think because you need to HardSPL the device before you can flash custom ROMs. Anyone tried the new March official ROM? It's nice but messaging is slow.

I think the speed of the new ROM is the same as the previous version of WM6.5 ROM. I haven't tried change the pagepool size from 15MB to 18 or 20 MB. Might try this weekend and see if the speed improve or not.

The battery drain is fast. I'm also getting 1 day only. But anyone notice that if you lock the device the battery life will improve? I can get 1 and half day if i make sure to lock before switching off.

Actually you don't need to HardSPL your device unless you want to flash custom ROMs or Official ROMs from other region.

Btw, i changed the pagepool size of the new official ROM to 20MB and Sense 2.5 become much smoother.

PagePool is like cache memory. Increase the pagepool will increase speed but less memory for running programs. After changing to 20MB, my free RAM for programs left 85.7MB.

I'm using a Kingston 16GB Class 2.

hmm... I don't have such problem with the new ROM. Maybe you can try use the QuickGPS to download satellite once.

Yes, you have to reflash after changing the pagepool on the ROM file. I strongly recommend to change the pagepool to 20MB (from the default 15MB). Furthermore, the original WM6.1 ROM also has a pagepool of 20MB.

Yes, they didn't include the task manager. You can manually install one. Can get from:

and install the Touch X Taskmanager.cab, then soft reset.

I read somewhere saying HTC did not include the task manager because of battery life concern. I'm not sure true or not. But i'll try if it's true.

No, by default it doesn't. But you can enable this by just changing the registry:
HKCU/Software/HTC/Manila/EnableFullScreen:dword=1
Soft reset and now you will have default rotation in this tab.
(0 to disable it)

BTW, HTC just posted a fix for the Facebook photo album not showing problem on their website.

The rotation thing only affect the music tab only. Other tabs still will not rotate. Anyway, it's not important for me so i off it.

One tip on saving battery life: Lock the phone before turning it off. It works for me.

From my observation the htc task manager drains the battery slightly faster. But it's convenient so i keep it.
Other tips to save battery:

1. Recalibrate the battery (a lot of users at xda-developers recommend it)
- Discharge the device completely.
- Take out battery for 40-60 sec.
- Put back in the battery. Don't switch on the device!
- Charge the device by normal way (not by usb!) to full state (green LED).
- Take out the battery again for 40-60 sec.
- Put back in the battery.
- Switch on the device.

2. Remove any home screen taps that you don't use.

3. Turn off any wireless function if you don't use them. I even turn off the infrared beam.

4. Adjust the backlight lower.

5. Make sure to lock the device before turning off. I think the device will only suspend properly if you do so.

6. Turn off keyboard vibration and home screen tap vibrations. Turn off home screen weather animation. I even turn off the unnecessary (and annoying) 1:02 clock flip.

7. If really want maximum battery life, turn off htc sense completely and use the windows default! (Go to the Today setting).

Anyone tested any custom driver for our TD2? I'm testing the 2D/3D driver that enable OpenGL/VG hardware acceleration for our device. It can be found here:

There's definite speed improvement for Sense and other openGL games.

Update: The driver drink battery like hell. Better not use it.

To reduce home screen lag, can try increase the pagepool to 20MB.

If don't like the htc messaging, can use patch to revert back to previous version of messaging. Read few post back. If don't like the new official ROM, can always flash back to the old ROM, there's no regret.

To change the pagepool, you need to first launch the exe ROM file that you've downloaded. Then click next to let it extract the ROM files. Then, go to your windows temp folder (usually located at C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp) and locate the file RUU_signed.nbh (should be in pft60C.tmp folder). Use the Pagepool Changer to open that file and click 20MB on whole part, then click "Change to". Then exit the PagePool Changer program and resume flashing with the ROM Upgrade Utility.

The official South East Asia ROM already have chinese support la.
BTW, if anyone wants to try custom ROM, i recommend TESS Prime IV.

I recommend TESS Prime IV. It's a fast, stable 3rd party ROM, consume less memory compared to official ROM.

Why would one wants to disable g sensor?

Mine can listen to music and radio while the phone is suspended. Just press the top on off button.

They removed the HTC Task Manager in the new ROM. To get it back, just install Aman's TaskMan or Duttys Task Manager which they took out from the old ROM. Don't forget to soft reset after install the cab.

I'm waiting for the new TESS Prime ROM that will include the new HTC Messaging client.

TESS Prime ROM only come out when the ROM builder thinks it is stable enough. Currently he is working on new build (WM 6.5.3).
But now i'm thinking of trying the GoogyROM that uses WM 6.1 with Sense 2.5. They said it has the fastest Sense 2.5.
