if using tile, try to use heavy duty type. it can reduce the possibility of cracks. any stone type material will crack under certain impact though.
solid surface cheapest compare to those range. normally u eat 'tapau' meal if using this type of material.
granite, try google around, u might find cheap one. and of course all these investment are for display (showoff
