I want to do a new TV cabinet for my new house. The design is as follows:-

1) wall hung solid wood tv cabinet one foot above floor level. the cabinet must be strong enough to support 100kg of equipment (amplifiers, Cd player, etc). No chipboard or plywood for the main frames, just solid wood.

2) tv wall panels measuring 12 feet x 8 feet high

3) solid wood support for rear speakers

my parents are planning to renovate the house soon. And we're looking into some kitchen designs. Nowadays i see a lot of kitchens have hoods above the stove.  We used to have a house years ago that had a hood and it was a hassle just maintaining it because it was mostly oily. My family cooks everyday and we're not the type that go out to eat unless we're outside. So we plan not to have a hood, but I dont know if the technology of hoods has improve over the years where cleaning and maintaining it wont be a hassle or not.

So i'd like to ask a few 2 cents from you guys if its that necessary at all to have one or it would be fine without one? Btw, my parents just plan to install an exhaust fan as the ventilation, and we normally open the kitchen door when we cook
