Would like to check what's the difference between melamine and plywood? Was told that plywood is of better quality so slightly more expensive. True?

melamine/chipboard is compress board. A type of paperboard which is made from reclaimed paper stock. You can see there's chips at the middle.
Whereas plywood/blockboard is real wood.
Melamine itself have colour when come from factory. Easier to set up. Most common material in the market.
plywood have to finishing with a pieces of laminate on its surface, it needs time/labour to done. that's why the price of plywood have different with melamine.
If you choose foreign brand, eg TAK, JENNINGS, the price will be more more higher.
Because one pcs of laminate already cost RM1XX to RM2XX or more expensive

we cant said which one more better, just depend on your requirement/budget/the way to use of

In term of durability , which one is more durable : Membrane press cabinet or 3G cabinet?
I heard membrane press tends to have bubbles/peeling over years, is it true?
I am deciding on these two material for my white KC. TQ

I just chose full floor to ceiling height black 3G cabinet and black galaxy granite top for my apartment kitchen. My wall is white. Any comment? If not suitable, I can still change because the wet work has not started.

Added on October 30, 2011, 7:08 amI was quoted about RM2000 for 8' x 4' black granite galaxy counter top (including the cabinet end finishing) by a granite factory (including installation). My contractor quoted me RM3300 for the same granite counter top. When I said I would like to get the one from that factory, my contractor asked me to get the factory to build their own concrete based, plumbing and tiling coz the RM3300 includes that and the KC should not have separate people to do it. As far as I know, RM3300 is the price any contractor/ KC company will quote for my counter top excluding the wet work. RM1300 deficit just on that granite alone . hm sad.gif

Hi Erni,

If my kitchen measurement is 11' x 7', is it suitable for the same L shape KC (minus the island) as the KC in this pic?

May I know what's the usual height of non modular base cabinet?Went to a cooking class recently and the chef mention it's best to have the cabinet higher so we can cook and cut without bending over. In long term it's going to hurt our back if we keep bending. I measured his cabinet and it's around 90cm.

This kitchen cabinet's size is around 14ft x 10ft, 11ft length maybe can't fit for 2 tall cabinet like the picture.

Hi LYN forumers,

My first post and decided to do it here icon_rolleyes.gif

Been following this thread and finally decided to approached Unity Design. Drop by at their showroom on Tuesday 4th Oct and met up with Ms. Esther ... pleasant service and she is very accomodative. thumbup.gif

The best part is, I've accidentally
broken their discussion table but still managed to get out from there FOC !

My apology Erny and Team !!! :respect
