In this thread, I offer you an opportunity. I offer to the populace here to use the opportunity I have going to the place I travel to, to allow you to get items overseas and to be brought back along by me once I'm back in this country. This opportunity starts right from tomorrow, where I am departing to Sydney and Brisbane, and ends right up to my return from Stockholm and New York on June the 2nd.

Items up for grabs are mostly those of which I am personally interested in, and will frequent to, once I am at these cities, namely Apple-related items, electronics/gadgets and videogaming-related merchandises as well. But first the itinerary.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Well, there you have it. List down what items you would possibly need, and where to get them, and I'll see what I can do. For further details, PM ONLY. You know how sensitive things are around this part of the forum regarding the "loose" definition of the word "trade".

P/S: Inclusion of "videogames" and "gadgets" in this offer, in a largely Apple-centric section of this forum, is due to the fact that I am opening this offer to the Console Couch section as well. An edited-for-Concole-Couch thread of nearly similar content will be posted there soon after.

I have to add this disclaimer for this, in lieu of the current events happening right now:-

I will be with the team piloting the plan on MH090 and MH091 going to, and coming back from New York for this trip. As you all have read in the papers, the flight MH091 which came back from New York has been home-quarantined for a week in regards to the two passengers found carrying the AH1N1 Influenza virus. If such thing occurs to me when I get back on the 3rd of June next month, I may be stopped from any outside contact, placed on house quarantine for a period of 1 week. If this happens and does not suit your preference on retrieving your items (you want your items ASAP, for example), then I cannot help you. If nothing happens and the flight is clean, then it is business as usual, they will most probably give a minimum of 5 days off after such a long trip for crew rest. We can arrange pickups of your items within that period.

Nyahaha! First customer! Something colorful, this way come! laugh.gif

Those are what I call "loud" colors. Checking their address, they are conviniently located close to Central Park, so it should not be a problem getting it for you, stock availability permitting. Shooing the dullness out of your life with these bright colors, eh Neekun?tongue.gif

tongue.gif Yeah!!!! Actually I saw this brand at OneU but very limited designs. Mostly bottle cases and a few laptop sleeves only.

At first me thinking to get some iPhone 3G accessories also but knowing that new iPhone is just around the corner so better don't cause I guess the current iPhone 3G accessories might not be compatible with the upcoming new iPhone.

I wish this trip was a little bit later than this, at least until past the middle of June. That way we can be sure of an actual announcement on WWDC, and I can be States-side to purchase Palm Pre on June 5th. Timing lari again. sad.gif

Hey, that's a nice gesture! I'm flying in 18th night, and will be arriving 19th morning, so I'll need my beauty sleep before heading out in the afternoon. CBD? Mekong? Or any other nice eateries?biggrin.gif

Get me a pair of Grado SR60 sponge pad replacements please but only if they're less than $15 after taxes and if you're actually going someplace that has them. Don't go special for them, mine will still last for a bit longer...

Don't forget the skydiving/paragliding and Great Adventure too. Maybe I should upload my skydive video to youtube to entice you biggrin.gif

Well, the first destination in this Kirim thread is on for today: I'm off to Sydney. Looks like it will be a relatively easy day for me there, since no requests for anything OZ-side.

IT's the first actual sighting that make you gasp literally. The additional jaw-drop actually came once you descend into the glass cube and realise that........there is actually a bigger store/showroom floor underneath it. It's like finding a hidden buried treasure! laugh.gif

I literally walk + ran to the Cube once I saw it, cars and traffic be damned. God, I'm such a nerd! laugh.gif

er.. i'm afraid none of those, bos. i don't really dig much Fall Out Boy, Eminem or U2.

i'm thinking maybe Metric's Fantasies and other indie rock or post-rock bands.

i'll get this sorted once i'm home. my brain hurts. am still in the miserable cubicle now.

Aiyoh boss, I cant be telling you what to buy, can I? tongue.gif I have a few things I'm planning to buy myself. Panasonic DMC-GH1 Micro Four-Third camera, Palm Pre(if Best Buy stocks them early), inFamous PS3 game, tons of Nintendo Wii games, tons of NDS games, a long list of Blu-ray titles, among other things. List still not finalised yet.

AWESOME does not even begin to describe the epicness of the finale! Mark Pellegrino (Jacob) walking around TOUCHING each of the Losties in their lives , and that conversation he had with Esau/BlackShirt/EvilEntity in the beginning, is simply poignant and awesome! I dont think they are pawns, they have been used yes, but in S6 Jacob's plan will include them in the fight against Esau/BlackShirt/EvilEntity.

If you watched the very first Pilot episode of Lost in S1, Charlie and Lapidus basically said the same thing when they both encounter the Smoke Monster and dead Locke body respectively, they both said "Terrific". I love these little nods and links these character have, showing that the Lost writers dont just simply throw these ideas around randomly, they had planned all this all along! Roll on S6!

Added on May 21, 2009, 12:44 pmI have to add this disclaimer for this, in lieu of the current events happening right now:-

Hey string,

The Palm Pre is not tied up to Sprint contract? Looking at the specs, the pre is only single band and using EVDO. Can work here ka?

USD850 ... Wohoooo what a hefty price tag.

Roll on S6
Sorry to barge in on more Lost OT-ness. smile.gif. BIG SPOILER ALERT to whoever that follows Lost but hasn't seen the latest eps yet....

My fav finale is still the season 3 flash forward finale. That was such a 'ZOMG' moment. I do hope Jacob has BIGGER plans for the remaining Losties, don't want them all to end up like Locke (RIP *sobs*). I hope Juliet survives, I like her character. What do you think happened in the end?

I've concluded that there are 4 possibilities:
a) the bomb worked. They're all back where it started, at LAX. Not knowing one another.
b) the magnetic field + nuclear bomb = Losties flashed to the present time, much like when the Island was flashing into & out of time in the the first few episodes of the season. This way they'll be reunited with Sun, Ben & Co. Bad news, Juliet might be dead as she carries her injury with her much like Locke with his bullet wound.
c) the bomb went off but it didn't work, it just countered the magnetic energy creating the supposed 'incident' and they're all still stuck in the 70s.
d) the bomb didn't went off, but jacob's death created some anomaly of events.

Oh yeah, I've given it some thought smile.gif. I'm not big on the Jacob/'Esau' war (I mean, isn't Ben vs Widmore kinda enough?) since they're both clearly supernatural beings & I was hoping that Lost will be more 'science-centric', at least in terms of answering most of the mysteries. I'm a little hesitant to embrace the 'mystical' aspect of the show, though I expected it, especially after I was thoroughly disappointed by BSG's series finale. Too many 'God Did It' answers, which felt more like a cop-out rather than thoughtful plotting. Hopefully Lost will be much better.

Sorry, long OT post. biggrin.gif

Juliet, a.k.a Elizabeth Mitchell is confirmed by the Lindelcuse/Darlton that she wont be a series regular come Season 6. She is tied as a regular character on J.J's other project , "V", which is projected to replace Lost after the final season next year. Usually, when that happens, just like Claire/Charlie/ or any other "ghostly apparitions" characters, that means they are dead. After all, "Dead is Dead", just like what Ben Linus says.

As for my prediction, there is this interesting theory on the Lostpedia forum regarding what will happen on Season 6. I like this theory, so I'll echo what the original theorist says about it.

First AH1N1 update, detailing steps and precautions I've taken towards making sure this NYC trip remains healthy and virus-free.

Got flu vaccination shot at the MAA in Kelana Jaya today, only for frontliners , supplied by Novartis. Conditions were at least 48hours before the next flight, and not allergic to egg- or egg byproducts. Jab on the shoulder, and was advised that due to the reaction by the body itself, may vary from slight mild temperature rise to am actual fever itself, as the body scrambles to produce antibody to combat the flu virus. The vaccine itself is of course a modified flu-virus, designed to encourage production of antibody within the injected person. That way, it provides self-immunity, but only definite immunity towards the flu-virus on which that vaccine is produced from. This is not a vaccine for the AH1N1, I'll still be susceptible to the virus and flu itself if I dont maintain a clean hygienic practices like washing hands before/after eating, and most importantly. not to poke your fingers into your nose/eyes/mouth that would allow transmittal of drop infection of the virus.(Carrier sneezes, or wipes nose, fluid from sneeze or runny nose gets onto your fingers, and you poke it into those cavities where fluid transfer is possible).

Next AH1N1 update will be once I'm in Stockholm, as we prep for Stockholm-NYC sector. Hopefully the info provided may help others in demystifying the flu itself, or help in any other way.

All, this as per my first post, have to be researched by you. I'm there to get the item only. icon_rolleyes.gif

Added on May 23, 2009, 3:06 amOT: To Dawn, this is the series that is projected to replace Lost on ABC once it ends in 2010. "Juliet" , a.k.a Elizabeth Mitchell from Lost is featured prominently in this, so like I said before, she would not survive the hydrogen bomb in the Season 5 finale.

stringfellow, the Grado sponge pads may not be available at B&H, it's a wild guess if you're midtown at B&H. Come to think of it, J&R will probably have it, not B&H. The tiffen stuff are camera filters for the lenses, small stuff about as big as a coaster.

Dude, carrying around a subway map is so touristy brows.gif Real New Yorkers stand in the subway and look at the map there over people's heads biggrin.gif

Anyway, I included the B&H part numbers for the Tiffen filters so the B&H guys will know. If you're not sure then don't worry about it, I'll get them the next time around.

I'm using the Grado SR60 btw, so the original flat pads would be great. However I checked both B&H and J&R websites and neither stock them. I don't suppose you're going out to Brooklyn to get earpads so again if they're not available then no worries.

Finally, I want to see pictures of Great Adventure!!! biggrin.gif Thanks stringfellow!

Off topic, but I still say no to the Kindle (1, 2 or DX). The Kindle is so not me. I read a lot and still prefer a regular book or audible if I want to bring it along with me in electronic form.

BTW string if you're into SF I really enjoyed Spin by Robert Charles Wilson. Yes it's available for the kindle and on audible biggrin.gif

Yeah, that's one of the shortlisted title I'm planning to get. "Rendezvous with Rama" and the "Time Odysses" series, and as many Isaac Asimov and Gene Wolfe books I can get my hands on should complete it. biggrin.gif

Tish bro, BHPhoto is closing early on the 28th (2pm) and closed on 29th and 30th. That news is posted on their webpage. MH90 arrives at 1030, and by the time I'm ready to dash out of the hotel, it would already be 1pm already. I'll try my best, but I fear time may not be on our side. sad.gif

To Neekun and Rawn, hunting for your items will be on the 30th. I'm heading down to Park Row near Ground Zero for J&R Music Store for Rawn's items, and on 7th Avenue to check out the southside branches that sells BuiltNY sleeves. This may also the venue to look for Tishaban's and Hanzx Grado spongepads as B&H Photo Video is closed until Monday. Stay tuned.

On a not-related note tongue.gif, weather is foul in NYC today, micro-drizzles around, keeping things damp. But I dont know if it a spot-a-celeb-day in NYC, because I saw FOUR of them around Manhattan today! Rub shoulder with Julia Roberts as she was crossing the street southward along Fifth Avenue with a shopping bag in hand, "Lt. Ellen Ripley"'s Sigourney Weaver was shopping at Sak's and Co, and of all people, John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston at Apple Store Fifth Avenue! Eyes went bug-eyed from all these sightings, but these folks are cool with the attention, in fact almost taking things cool like normal New Yorkers.

Broadway's closed along 47th St. as chairs are laid for folks to relax around the Flatiron and Times Square area. Radio City Hall near 30 Rock (Rockefeller Plaza) are filled with purple robes graduates from the Hunter College of The City University of New York. Also went to the Nintendo World Store, but after looking at their selection of games, and price, Gamestop is surprisingly cheaper!

As for me, bought these:-

Amazon Kindle 2 with matching leather cover, EA Active Wii, inFamous PS3 with Unchartered 2 demo, Bionic Commando PS3, Patapon 2 and USD100 worth of iTunes Gift Card. Pics to come later.

1:44am here. Less than 6 hours....Six Flags Great Adventure!

Added on May 29, 2009, 3:06 pmAH1N1 Update: The weather here is not helping, being drizzly and damp most of the time. New Yorkers however do not care. No masks in sight, but surprising, during my shopping walk yesterday, not a sneeze heard. Maybe even the NYers are immune to the not-so-hygienic conditions of the Big Apple? 3 schools in Brooklyn and Queens was however closed due to swine flu scare but they are opening today(Fri.). Personally, other than the chill around here, feeling fine. So AH1N1 = meh?

Update!

Rawn/Ron,

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

To the rest, I've received your messages of request AFTER I left NYC, so I'm afraid the items on request aren't possible to get.

AH1N1 Update: Nobody is sick, and not a single soul on NYC care enough to wear a freaking mask. Nobody was sick on the crew side as well, even while we all had mingled around in crowded areas in Fifth Avenue and Woodbury Commons. *shrugs*

Tish bro, pics and videos of Six Flags Great Adventure to come. Awesome deal from NJ Transit includes transport from Newark Penn, return as well, plus the admission ticket for USD47. Crowd was thin enough for me to get to all the rides, but unfortunate the main reason why I was here, the Kingda Ka was closed for maintainance. cry.gif

Superman Ultimate Flight.

Bizarro's after waterspray-to-inversion, and the flamethrower!

A taste of the next-door Safari Park.

The view across the lake towards El Toro, the mammoth wooden coaster, and the tallest and fastest coaster on Earth, Kingda Ka.

Six Flags Great Adventure's latest new addition, the Bizarro. Originally called the Medusa, they chopped off the flooring, making it floorless, add side speakers on each side of the seats, and adds THREE water spray misters and a flamethrower along the ride. Freaking awesome! thumbup.gif

Bizarro's Point-Of-View (POV) of how it looks like when you ride at the front.

Superman Ultimate Flight POV. Chicken-shit need not apply. tongue.gif

The King of Rollercoasters: The Kingda Ka. Wipe your ass on the way out, coz you may have soiled yourself. laugh.gif

Junkie I am. sad.gif If others need to get their fix on booze, girls or WoW tongue.gif, my sole weakness is adrenaline.

Just arrived today at 0710. Not a soul in sight at the airport wearing masks, I guess the AH1N1 scare is wearing off.

Rawn boss, I departed NYC on the 31st arrived in Stockholm back on the 1st. Stayed in Stockholm until 2nd, and depart the same day and arrived today.

Just woke up in fact. Rollercoasting takes a toll on the body, but the natural high is indescribable. wub.gif

Everyone on this Kirim, stay tuned, I'll arrange your pickups privately via PM later. Or if you like, call me. We can arrange it that way.

@tishaban,
You've 2 options:
1) Don't watch it
2) Take leave, catch a flight and go off to NY biggrin.gif

And if U choose (2) please take me along; I can spare 25 days of leave biggrin.gif

Okay guys, here's the deal. I'm planning the pickups and refunds by today, and was already PMing half of you guys for the details on how and where to do so, when a call came in at 1600.

A call from office, and a few minutes later a call from MAS Medical Center. Yup, you guessed it. There was a detected AH1N1 case on MH091 coming back from Stockholm, which before that, the same flight number from New York..

So I leave it to you guys. I am off today and tomorrow, but I may or may not be a carrier. If I turn any of you guys into zombies or anything, it is not my fault if you guys decides to want to meet up for your pickups and/or refunds.

Personally I feel fine, but to be perfectly clear of any doubt, the onus is one me getting myself checked up at MAS Medical.

So the choice is yours. At the time being, nobody has called or place me on house quarantine or anything so a meetup for your pickup is still possible. But the risk is still there, since I'm part of MH091 persons-on-board makeup. I leave it to you.

wow tinkerbel is asking me out to New York in public. Dare I say no? tongue.gif

Anyway tink here's the deal. KLIA to London on Emirates from RM1300 return then London to New York for around US$3-400 return (many airlines). Alternatively KL-Singapore-NYC for around S$1000 return on Emirates. MH is too expensive for now... sorry string.

Not a problem, we knew about the price disparity. The staff were oblivious mostly because of the "Z" fare tickets and the 90% discounts on all flights we get, not to mention the free tickets every year to any MAS destination. For normal passengers, of course the need to look into the price difference is prudent.

@tishaban,
Do I hear a Yes?! biggrin.gif

I prefer the KL-London-NY route. If we're serious about the trip, let's plan something and I'll check if I can get keys to a friend's apartment in London biggrin.gif

@stringfellow,
I would ask U too but what am I going to do with 2 "techies" & roller coaster fanatics tongue.gif

LOL, it would be almost impossible to arrange a holiday in short notice for me, so if this is a trip between us three, then I need to get the date early.

I've never been to London. Nor do I have any inclination or interest to go there. No interesting roller coasters. tongue.gif

@stringfellow,
Er.. the initial plan's for Dec 2009. In fact, let's make it a round-the-USA trip. Obviously, I've a tight budget so we'll have to manage it well tongue.gif

London's got West-End ! If I'm going on those coaster rides, Ur going to have to do some stuff that I like too, right?! tongue.gif

@tishaban,
SoOo.. it's just U now tongue.gif Macam mana brown cow?! biggrin.gif

Stringfellow, I only chose London because it was cheap. Paris by comparison is around RM3400. I've not been to London much either, maybe 3 times only?

Tink, I would *love* to go but I can't. The new budget request will only get approval around October so any travel to EU/US before that is a big no no. I do suggest you go though, NYC is nice weather in June and you probably will get to see your man friend practicing parkour outdoors biggrin.gif

Back on topic, stringfellow nothing for me ya?

Nope, nothing on the Tiffen or the Grado sponge pads. This goes to Hanxz too. They have the full compliment of Grados at J&R, but to get pad replacements, have to go Brooklyn.

Was informed that it's official : Third AH1N1 case from the flight in is in the news. SMS from other crew on board. I don't watch local news so that SMS came useful. Still no news or phonecall asking for me to stay indoors, so Im typing this in KLCC. Met Rawn for his stuff from J&R and he's not a single bit fazed. tongue.gif

LOL, she'll kill me if she hears that! The plan is, every year Christmas I'll try and be by her side, so yeah. But if you can arrange a date that ties in before or after my annual trip back States-side, I can surely join! rclxms.gif

Thorpe Park is pretty decent, they just had Saw:The Ride there, but it looks "too safe" for a ride taking the name of the goriest movie I've known. There's also Collossus and Stealth. But ratio of thrill rides vs total of number of rides is small, so I'll most probably be wandering aimlessly there if I go. Alton Towers has Air, Nemesis and Oblivion, but again, that is it. Too little thrill tides per number of total rides.

Six Flags was once threatened with bankruptcy, until they got injected with some cash infusion recently . And from their reformation efforts , with X2 and Bizarro, it looks like things are going their way. Most of the restructuring goes behind the scene, and mainly due to slack management and cash bleeding off that way (just like how MAS used to be, until we tightened our belts). I mean, how can they close a ride like this:-
