Sorry for exaggerating the title. But, hey...who's crazy enough to mod a RM670 case 5 hours after you bought it. whistling.gif
But, this is my MINIMALIST approach on modding. Simple yet striking. So, sorry again if this doen't quite qualify as a mod.

Hmm...where do I start? I have bunch of pics taken but I lost my cable. So, bear with me for certain areas might be lagging in picture attachments as I can only used my phone as a medium.

1st of all I'd like to debunk the worldwide myth of "RV01 is cable management nightmare". I've read numerous forums & blogs saying this. But with a few pointers (no drill, no dremmel used), perhaps people might have a second thought of getting this beast. However, I also would like to welcome all RV01 owners (as well as others) out there to give their thought on this. Make it constructive. I only notice these hidden tricks when disassembling the casing (which is a pain in the nates).

Motherboard:
Rampage II Extreme

So, lemme start.

MYTH: RV01 has HUGE space but too little@small space/slot/hole to slip in cables.
user posted image user posted image
The horizontal circle points to the area beneath the motherboard which has a very narrow openings.
The vertical circle shows a bigger hole, however the hole sits right beneath the motherboard which makes it hard to slip in 'fatter' cables (usb, firewire).

So, I found two SOLUTIONS for these problems.

1. REMOVE THE 180mm FAN BRACKET
user posted image user posted image
Small openings just got bigger...

2. USE THE OPENINGS AROUND THE RADIATOR MOUNT BAY TO ROUTE THE CABLES

a) REMOVE THE REAR SLOT
user posted image

b) USE THIS INSTEAD OF THE VERTICAL OPENINGS

MYTH BUSTED!

Can't quite share the end product yet caused my sleeves haven't arrived yet.

Now, let's get to the fun part...SNEAK PREVIEW

user posted image The Blazing Raven? Red Raven? sweat.gif Haven't thought about the name yet.

Here is my rig...

Purchased from Low Yat Plaza. Drove aaallll the way back to Kota Tinggi, Johor & straight to business. Hell yeah my mind was racing with ideas while driving. That, cut the journey 1 hour shorter as well. ( rclxub.gif can't wait to unpack this monster, can't wait to unpack this monster rclxub.gif )

As I reached home..I noticed that this casing...yada yada yada...READ THE REVIEW HERE, PEOPLE. Credit to ianho

Then straight away to assembly.

Powder coating, mate. It's called "Special Chilli Red" to be exact.

BTW, can anybody send me a link to anyone selling L.E.D here in LYN. Couldn't find a shop selling red L.E.D here. Dang! I want to change the blue L.E.D from the top panel.

Haha..I plan to go with UV...but UV has to be turn off once a while. So, maybe normal 'bright' ccfl will do. As for the right interior...Just got my Asus 4890..but it has no light whatsoever. The OCZ ram cooler even lights up in blue. sweat.gif

Suggestions are welcomed..

very thick red coat .... hmmm ..

i must admit .. it's a really smooth painting .. but i'll be best if you use a very thin red coat with a thick clear coat ..

if i may suggest, get a drill with the car polishing drill bit ... (use wool) .. and some polishing compound ... it just takes around 5 min .. to buff it up and had a great mirror shine smile.gif

Whoaaa...so many people interested. Hope this will be famous internationally. I must use victorian English from now. Hehe..

Well as for the paint job, I didn't do it myself. Although I've been using can spray for quite sometimes (I own a scooter, hence scooter community), but there's no way I can get the EVEN glossy finish without using industrial spray method.

Any car paint shop will do this for you...just look around. Ask around for their reputation. Don't be tempted to go for cheap price only when you will only end up regretting (due to uncommited work; i.e: pimples - most common due to bad job in polishing, paint smear - uneven distribution of spray etc.). RM100~200 would be just fine for a flat type (non metallic / flakes). I believe that should be the price range since my scooter cover set cost around RM300~400 to be painted (which is a lot bigger than a computer case)

As for, me I admit of rating 6/10 of the paint job due to the thickness and some minor pimples. Thick paint = longer drying time. Longer drying time = prone to scratches during the waiting period.

Anyway, thanks for the referrals. I'm thinking of ONLY painting the casing, but due to overwhelming support, I'll try expanding my project further.

White cable sleeving + Black interior + Red peripherals. wub.gif

How does that sounds?

Yay...AllnGap replied. Hmm...my pal LilRazor, U can try asking some of teh pro here.

I HAVEN'T finish setting up d cable management / accessories coz I just started this project. I need to gather few things 1st b4 I'd be able to satisfy myself with the outcome.

As I mentioned in my 1st post, this is my minimalist approach. So, I'm not aiming for barbs, WC & so on.

However, plss review some of the setup (cable management) made by others b4. I'm just hoping that this would provide a 2nd thought for those NOT buying raven coz of the cable management nightmares. Mine is better at least. whistling.gif

kekke dude check this out and compare to ures

first one and third one is by a reviewer they have no time to do cable management..

second one is good

ures is a disaster

the cable management pics u put is by case reviewers..

ures is a worklog which u have time to spent on cable management.

anyways will see how ures go but as it is .. if its going to look like that with all the wires crossing over everywhere
and dangling about.. rate it as not much difference than stock raven with no cable management.

Added on May 15, 2009, 11:11 pmbtw are u powering ure gc using the molex to pcie??

are u mad?

*Sigh...harsh words from U all along. Nvm.

The molex thing U mentioned is the adapter I received along with the graphic card.

2nd, thats Y i mentioned again & again, I'm just showing it as an idea for those who despise the case. Plus, U can't never compare a the cable management for different motherboard with mine. *Mine is R2E, comparable to the 3rd pics.

Anyway, SILENT MODE: ON. (Not a star collector in LYN)

yeah the molex connector is a incase situation of rail issues

well cause i think u can do better hence harsd words

nobody despise this case.
and nobody said this case is hard to do for cable management infact its easy
only thing ppl despise is the sata cable length require.
the r2e is a Extended atx hence not as bad as atx or less mobo's

see my profile pic
thats a r2e
and it has more hardware and better cable management that what uve posted without any mod

as i said waiting fore u to get ure stuff etc to do better cable management.

take time off... everone need time to learn... my sugestion... the purpose of cable management is to hide the cable...
so 1st... take the ram cooler wires off ur mobo...
every wires need to be off and away... of the mobo so that the beauty of ur mobo can show...
group the extended wire together.

than is the colour of the paint.. i think the real life is different form the picture. the colour contrass is way off... get a better camera to capture the casing... show it off with different angle... thick dosent matter a least it bond in...

the extra wire from the mobo... u always can cover up with black arcylic... that way it will look good

well, put some effort in and u will see the result wink.gif

edit~ always use zip tie or ties to gather ur wiring towards to hidden area.

Guys, here's my problem. I'm planning to buy Raven later next month because I wanted to CF 2 HD4890 that are fixed with AC Accelero Twin Turbo on both. The problem is, the setup may suit for other Full tower casings but I'm not sure whether it'll be for RAVEN. So I wanna ask all the sifus here, is it possible to do what I'm planning now? Thanks~

I think should be no problem to fit in since Raven is full tower case, juz the hardwares placed vertically... hmm.gif

Yes, I admit it's a full tower case. But when the mobo is fixed vertically inside the case, it just looked more like a long mid tower casing.

My plan need a tall case to make it suit. So, I crossed Raven out of my list. Damn, I really love this casing! Hate it when I actually never got to buy it~

Thanks for the help guys..

Thats what i feel like a long midtower. But maybe others have their own opinion. No doubt its a beauty.

Umm..thx for d comments. I was bz with my resignation. Plus, d board fried -> lightning. TWICE!! So, now, just waiting endlessly for RMA.

Yes I got the LED already, & changed it. But, like I said, waiting for all components get together then I'll continue.
