you may have a double situation here..

1. sounds like a "password" has been set for this unit (via options-security setup)

2. a locked phone will display something like "invalid sim" on its display during standby mode.. (that is, after you get through situation #1 first)

it's crucial to know which service provider(aka telco) the phone was locked.. otherwise, it'll be like shooting in the dark, attempting to lock it.. there could be some hint as to dig out the source of this provider.. perhaps the "service book" will be a good place to begin with?

hmm.. ok.. i also quite confusing.. later will go check it out whether will it show standby sim.. hopefully my friend didnt lock it.. but, if lock it with password.. could any hard-reboot of blackberry phone able to clear it?

n how come nid to know the telco to get it unlock 1? i tot phone "normally" should be get it unlocked then is unlock to every single telco..?

hmm, service book mean wat? is it phonebook to check for service number? or wat is it actually mean? caz, i juz got da phone n without anything.

hahaa.. you might want to read more about blackberry there.
go and refer page-by-page on the instruction manual.. read it as though it's like an interesting story book..

if you're telling me that you're lazy to do that.. then here's a quick solution for you:

1. place that pearl inside a microwave oven
2. crank to high and 5 minutes
3. when it's "ting~!" hopefully everything is reset and you can safely use it.
