hi guys...im newbie here using nikon d60 and eyeing for new lens.due tu my budget, im searching either to go for tammy 17-50 f2.5(built in motor) or sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC MACRO HSM. I heard that tammy AF speed is too slow blink.gif .wanna ask ur opinion, which one is the best between that item? tq.

QUOTE(alpha_company @ Jul 24 2009, 03:08 PM) forget the built in motor version. before this I owned & used a new Tamron 1750 built in motor version on D60 ..makes me sakit hati that the kit lens 18-55VR focuses faster... alpha_company, thanks for the advise.how about the IQ in Sigma 17-70? any user here? I would guess that u want somewhat an all rounder lens? f/2.8 is kinda useless if not utilized. f/2.8 constant is somewhat overrated..seriously. I suggest getting the Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC MACRO HSM. You could even manually focus on your fingers if you touch on the filter attached on the lens! If you must and still want an f/2.8 constant lens. Look at Sigma 18-50 f/2.8. i dont go for sigma 18-50 f2.8 because it is over my budget. |

QUOTE(alpha_company @ Jul 27 2009, 11:46 AM) I'm not so sure about the IQ. U need to google urself. actually i always shoot for potrait and landscape and always use my camera when travelling.all rounder lens like 18-200vr is very good but due to my budget, im thinking of tammy 17-50 or sigma 17-71. for me, the 17 can give me some more wide in stead of 18-55vr.First of all..what do u want to use ur lens for? http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/993726/+1760 in the thread above there's a pic showing that with manual focus, the sigma 1770 can even focus on the uv filter of the lens itself! anyway alpha_company, thx so much for your comment |

QUOTE do u want a tele zoom lens? the tamron 70-300 or sigma 70-300 is cheap but it doesnt have VR which in my opinion are most useful at ranges above 100mm. i dont really recommend any of these lenses. is it tammy 70-300 and sigma 70-300 can autofocus on d5000 and lower model?I would suggest the Nikon 55-200VR for that price. Yes it has shorter focal length, but it has a better IQ (image quality) and VR to reduce handshake effect while shooting. The Nikon 70-300VRii is more expensive but it has superb image quality and also a newer VRii. This post has been edited by doritezza: Sep 3 2009, 07:37 AM |

QUOTE(calvin_gsc @ Sep 4 2009, 07:22 AM) I have used Sigma 10-20mm, Tokina 12-24mm f/4 and now Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8. anybody using Tokina AT-X 124 PRO DX II here? since it has built in motor for D5000 and lower end model, how the comparison between this lens and sigma 10-20 HSM? iinm, this is only the 3rd party wide angle lens that can be af on non motor body.am i right?IMHO, Tokina has the better build. The sigma is only sharp wide open. When you stop it down to even f/11, the sides are significantly softer than the center. I think you may have mentioned you don't like distortions. So, that leaves you only once choice, which is the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8. I heard that tokina 11-16 f/2.8 is the best wide angle lens but unfortunately it cannot af on my d60 |
