Adrian is probably playing chess with zhou gong, so I'm gonna answer some of the questions:

We're not going to catch any dogs on our first visit, which is later at 12pm. Strictly a recon trip - surveying the place, asking permissions from relevant parties, checking out the price of boat rental so we can get to pulau tengah as well.

Adrian contacted PAWS and SPCA, which will be the receiving ends should we get any dogs.

The actual dog saving day will fall on next weekend. By that time, we aim to have 5 or more cages, stockpile of dog food, and a group of people to help us with the laboring.

We haven't finalize on how to deliver the dogs yet, but if everything fails, we'll just send them over by our cars.

I'll be taking lots of photos, of all our activities, with the aim of producing a scrapbook of some sort.

The scouting trip was somewhat successful as we managed to clear some doubts. We also found new problems which we'll try to tackle before the mission day.

Posting with friend's PDA biggrin.gif will write about what happened + photos when I got home later.

Not trying to blogwhore, but tired to repeat everything so head to my blog and read my version of report for today's trip, until we have Adrian's summary.

For those who just want to quick peek at the strays, photos are in spoiler.

QUOTE(Reuben @ May 10 2009, 10:36 PM)
This is just speculation but don't you think it wasn't just the villagers who did it? tongue.gif

Coordination + money + expertise to catch dogs.

I don't think your average villager has the expertise or even a group of them to organize such a huge effort. I pretty much have a good guess of who's behind the 'mobilization' of these dog catchers.

But this is besides the point and the important thing is to save the dogs.
*
I think I misinterpreted some of the press articles, because I was under the impression that the villagers did it. That's why I was puzzled: how did they get the 400 dogs to the pulau tengah in first place?

Do share what's your guesses. biggrin.gif

Anyway, if we find out how they did it, we might be able to repeat the same thing, making our capturing work easier. I will make a 2nd recon trip on my own tomorrow morning and try to find that out.

Secretary cum Media & Communications reporting in! Hi guys! biggrin.gif

First of all, apologies if any of you tried to contact me but can't reach. I've been running up and down Pulau Ketam for the last couple days, and will continue to do so until I'm satisfied with the information I'm gathering (eg: how where when the strays lurk).

So far, in the latest updates, I found 2 possible hot spots where the strays hangout. I'm going back to the island later, to confirm the sightings. I don't have a translator with me yet (I dunno hokkien la!!) but I'll try my best to chat more with the villagers, hoping to find out more, like maybe there's a favorite house the strays love.

It doesn't hurt to find out the least horrendous spot to go under the houses too, when the need arises.

So, I'll be afk/busy/dnd a lot until Friday, most probably, which I'll settle down with all the information, analyze a bit then put them in a nice simple chart that tells us what where when how is the best way to go about the missions.

Good luck on getting more volunteers and equipments. biggrin.gif

Recon Trip 3 - “Skinny”
http://joyce-tedoen.com/recon-trip-3-skinny/

I managed to stalk 1 stray for almost 2 hours today. Seeing it there sort of confirmed one of my hot spot. I call it “Skinny” because it is skinny.

Alright guys. Time for an update.

1. Keep this thread clean

What I mean is, this thread was created for the campaign "Save A Dog", led by Adrian, so it should remain that way. Don't get me wrong, I'm not interested in politic-ing (some might think I want to distinguish the campaign from others and claim the credits). Sharing information is great, but when there's too much, it causes confusion. People will be be confused with the two different campaign updates. (the Pulau Tengah and Pulau Ketam).

2. Visit to FFF

During our online meeting last night, we concluded that we're going to visit FFF on Sunday, as mentioned by Adrian before this. We're going to seek advice from Sabrina, regarding the settlement for the strays once we got them in hand.

More updates to come, after I finish my breakfast. smile.gif

Hi everyone, this is Adriene (not sure with the exact spelling), a survivor of the Hell Island, Pulau Tengah.

At about 4.20pm today, Terrance (or better known as TV Smith) found out there’s a rescued dog left at Perlabuhan Klang, along with the cage. He managed to get a volunteer (I’m sorry I couldn’t remember his name) to find and secure them. We acted as the emergency dispatch, and delivered the dog to Furry Friends Farm.

Do you guys remember Serene Adrianne?

During our stay at the Furry Friends Farm today after delivering the equipments, we mingled around with the dogs while waiting for Sabrina. Serene Adrianne was the first one we were looking for, and we recognized her from the scars on her head.

During this 3rd team outing, also the 2nd time at Furry Friends Farm, we helped the expansion of the sanctuary. A cabin was setup already, so we were tasked with moving the food stockpile into it, so the rats can't get to it.

Afterward, it's the routine volunteer chores - bathing the dogs, feeding the dogs, and playing with the dogs.

The owner of the restaurant we had our lunch at told us, she has been around for almost three years, with random kind people taking care of her, feeding her with fishes. Now, she's residing at the restaurant we dined at. But they can no longer keep her, especially since she's pregnant. We decided to take her in.

But she refused to follow us.

My first encounter with Princess was on last Sunday, 31st May 2009. I never imagined it would be the last as well. About 3 hours ago, Louis told me she passed away (Tuesday, 2nd June 2009). The details will not be available until I visit Furry Friends Farm later today.

We have new volunteers helping out at Furry Friends Farm for a week! The cool ladies are from Australia. They traveled to Vietnam and Laos before Malaysia, and will be heading to London after Malaysia.

Hi everyone,

I just go a call from Louis. Adrian will not be able to make it this week (meaning the meeting and the outing on Sunday), because of family issue. Anne will be taking over the things in the mean time (meaning leading the meeting and the outing on Sunday).
