Every now and again, when a player shoots, the commentator will say he has very little backlift or no backlift at all. And apparently, the less backlift you have when you shoot, the better. But I have no idea what backlift is.
Has anyone else heard commentators mention this term before? Do you know what it means?

IINM,backlift is when a player retracts his leg before striking the ball. In the case when the commentator says the player has little backlift,it simply means he retracts his leg only by a little before kicking the ball for a shot on goal. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

The more backlift the more power u generate when u strike the ball. This is why commentators rave everytime a player scores a goal with minimal backlift generally because it looks like it defied the laws of physics.

The more backlift, the higher chance for the ball to fly sky high i guess.

In general, leaning back while striking will almost always make the ball fly high

True, but I didn't say U can't control the flight of the ball when u lean back upon striking the ball Also if u watch Beckham strike one of his Free-kicks,U'll notice he leans sideways more than he leans backwards
