Agree on Hulse situation, but still i dont think the Blades going to be relegate later.
*
Well, Rob Hulse is mainly the one who has been banging in goals for them. Now with him ruled out for the rest of the season, who will take over the goal scoring duty? Stead? Still not convinced with his performance tongue.gif

Suddenly West Ham pick up the pace and Charlton seems to lose it.

Wigan are in some trouble with a series of bad results, it's getting rather interesting smile.gif
*
Yeap. Sheffield & West Ham are picking up points but Wigan & Fulham seems heading the other way (down instead of up).

And well done to Keano for leading Sunderland back into top flight football again rclxms.gif

Clubs go to war with Prem

QUOTE
FULHAM host a summit today in a bid to bring joint legal action against the Premier League over West Ham's points deduction let-off.

Chairmen and chief executives of Charlton, Wigan and Sheffield United will meet lawyers at the Harrods offices of Fulham owner Mohamed Fayed this lunchtime.

The relegation-threatened Hammers escaped with a £5.5million fine over the illegal contracts given to Argie duo Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano.

Dave Whelan, chairman of fellow strugglers Wigan, said yesterday: "Everything they did was so wrong that had it been Wigan, Watford or a 'smaller club' it would have been a 10-point deduction. No question."

All four of West Ham's relegation rivals are convinced they have an excellent case to take the league to court in a bid to reverse their controversial verdict.

They will cite the cases of non-league AFC Wimbledon, deducted points this season for fielding an ineligible player, and Bury, thrown out of the FA Cup for the same offence.

The four clubs are united in their belief that those precedents suggest West Ham should have lost points for the dishonesty of their former board when they signed Tevez and Mascherano prior to the takeover of new chairman Eggert Magnusson.

With relegation from the Premiership estimated to cost the clubs up to £60m after a major increase in TV revenue next season, the quartet will argue that a £5.5m fine is not a fit punishment.

Alan Curbishley's men won 3-0 at Wigan last Saturday to throw the survival race wide open.

I have a feeling it might be Wigan Athletic.

Sheffield United's recent home form has been good so a draw against The Latics will be enough for them to avoid the drop. While for Wigan, anything less than a win will means relegation and championship football next season.

Well, its too early to judge them now. It will depends what Reading do in the summer transfer market. If they improve/expand their squad without selling too many key players, I think they can survive.

After all, Steve Coppell did said that he will sacrifice European football (UEFA Cup - if they get it) next season by playing the reserves team to make sure they can start in the league for another season.

Wigan did some costly mistakes in the transfer market by selling some of their best player (Nathan Ellington, Jimmy Bullard & etc).

I think Fulham is safe already. So its down to Sheffield, West Ham & Wigan to battle it out.

I think West Ham will just sneak through this time.  I think Wigan will be relegated.  WH and SU just need a draw and it's bye.gif to Wigan.
*
It won't be easy for Hammers as SAF confirmed full 1st team will play against them to avoid any potential controversy and complains from Jewell & Warnock.

But regarding WHU W/D/L at Old Trafford, I still think Wigan will go down because I don't think they will get the result needed at Bramble Lane.

Wigan definitely need a win to be safe. Anything less than that means bye.gif Premier League football for them.

But the stats doesn't favour Wigan at all. Sheffield United's home stats in 2007:

P 7 W 4 D 2 L 1 GF 11 GA 5 (DWWDLWW)

Wigan's away stats in 2007:

P 8 W 1 D 1 L 6 GF 6 GA 14 (LLLDWLDL)

Sheffield United also beaten Hammers at Bramble Lane 3-0 when Hammers was in quite good form. So, I guess its Championship football for Wigan next season.

"We're playing West Ham and we are expecting a very tough game. It's our last home game of the season and it's one I'm sure everyone wants to be part of. I'm looking forward to celebrating in front of the Old Trafford crowd when we are awarded the Premiership trophy. Hopefully it will come after another good win - that would set us up nicely for the huge game to come at Wembley the following weekend."

THE RELEGATION EQUATION

Wigan will go down if they fail to beat Sheffield United

Sheffield United will go down if they lose to Wigan and West Ham draw or win against Manchester United OR if they lose to Wigan by three more goals than West Ham lose to Manchester United (eg Man Utd 1-0 West Ham, Sheff Utd 0-4 Wigan)

West Ham will go down if Wigan beat Sheffield United and they lose to Manchester United UNLESS Sheffield United lose by three more goals than the Hammers

Not really. Not with the new TV deal which will give the clubs more money to spend.

Also rumours saying Curbs could have 45mil to spend if they managed to stay up:

The rift currently afflicting the Premier League will also reach political circles on Tuesday as a group of Sheffield MPs will raise the issue in Parliament.

Labour MP Clive Betts told the Yorkshire Post: "The early day motion is essentially saying that the whole of the Premiership competition has been thrown into doubt. There are very clear rules.

"West Ham have broken those rules and they should have points deducted as a consequence."

Fifa will investigate Tevez saga

QUOTE
Fifa is to investigate whether West Ham should have been docked points for breaching rules over the signings of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano.

An independent commission fined West Ham £5.5m, but several clubs felt they were let off lightly.

Fifa president Sepp Blatter said: "We will look at this. We will ask for the file once it has been decided how and why the decision was made.

"If we feel something was wrong then we have to open our file."

West Ham broke two Premier League rules by entering into a private agreement with a third-party company when they signed Argentine pair Tevez and Mascherano in August last year.

Mascherano has sinced moved to Liverpool, while Tevez stayed and played an influential role in West Ham's successful battle against relegation - scoring seven goals in the club's last 10 games.

Sheffield United, who went down on the final day of the season, are leading the fight against the decision not to punish the Hammers with a points deduction.

The Blades, who are being supported by the likes of Wigan, Fulham, Charlton and Middlesbrough, are also concerned that West Ham may still have been breaking Premier League rules even after the ruling on 27 April.

The Premier League has argued that it has no case to answer as regards West Ham's punishment because all 20 Premiership clubs agreed to the disciplinary system in place.

However, that has not stopped Sheffield United from pursuing their case and Blatter's intervention may encourage them.

The Fifa boss said a recent ruling by the Swiss federal court against Spanish third division side Rayo Vallecano means the world governing body does have jurisdiction over individual clubs.

"Yes we have the power," he said.

"The Swiss federal court has made a ruling by saying that Fifa and its associations have the right and the power to use all 14 sanctions of the disciplinary code starting with a warning and ending with exclusion of a member via relegation and deduction of points."

In the Rayo Vallecano case, the Spanish club had been threatened with relegation if it did not pay transfer fees owed to a Brazilian club.

It claimed, unsuccessfully, that Fifa did not have the power to do so.

Rams on the up

QUOTE
There will be unbridled celebration in Derby as the team's success at Wembley against West Bromwich Albion in the Championship play-off final sinks in.

The glory and financial rewards of England's top division have been absent at County since they were relegated in 2002 but they will need to fight statistical history if they are to survive next season.

The truth is that the winners of the play-offs have struggled during the following season since the creation of the Premiership, with 60% of them being relegated after just one campaign. Things have not been much better for the division's champions with almost half of those being demoted immediately.

QUOTE
Promoted position  Relegation %
1st  47%
2nd  36%
Playoffs  60%

Indeed, despite Sheffield United's recent relegation, it is the team who finished second who have historically stood the best chance of survival in the Premiership, all of which is promising news for Steve Bruce's Birmingham City outfit.

Derby will have to contend with the fact that three of the last four play-off winners have been immediately relegated, with West Ham the sole survivors in that period.

What Reading need to stay up:

QUOTE
The Royals go to Derby next Sunday knowing that they must get a positive result to have any realistic chance of moving out of the bottom three and avoiding relegation.

Approaching that final game, two out of four teams will be relegated, and the situation at the bottom of the table is:

Bolton 36pts, GD-18
Fulham 33pts, GD-23
Reading 33pts, GD-29
Birmingham 32pts, GD-19

A win would make us safe if Fulham fail to win when they face Portsmouth at Fratton Park. Birmingham's result at home to Blackburn would then be irrelevant.

A draw would see us safe if Fulham lose, as well as Birmingham losing to Blackburn.

If Fulham win, we could still stay up with a huge victory at Derby, but it would need to be along the lines of an improbable and unprecented 7-0 or 8-0. If we were to equal Fulham's goal difference that would be enough because we would have scored more goals.

We would need an even bigger turnaroud to overtake Bolton, who are away at Chelsea.

The only way we could stay up with a defeat is if Fulham are improbably hammered by six goals at Pompey, and Birmingham also lose.
