the early adapter are doing promotion for astro, when you friend or family come over to your house and see the quality of HD channel, they may be tempted to finally upgrade to a HDTV and a HD astro package. biggrin.gif

if I only got documentary need to pay RM20 also? Only 2 HD channel should not be the same price with 5 HD channel.

Really hate this monopoly in practice.. Consumer will not win..

My new apartment will be ready for moving in by early Jan..astro B.Yond will be ready & rolled out by then..

Those with jalan with astro insiders...can u try find out for me..what bout new subscribers?also need to subs to current package then only can get hd content?

Before that..what's the arrangements like for those living in apartment since satellite dish needs to be changed also?currently i just need to subs to astro & plug in to the output port already available..there's no mentioned of replacing the cable in the news article, so i assume cabling wont needed to be replaced?

Management surely wont allow individual apartment units to install separate dish...& since they giving out the dish for free what's gonna be the deal for apartment owners like me who's dying for astro in hd?

After such long wait for astro hd content & now being told i might not be able to subs to it really sucks...its killing me...

There's so many apartments & condos these days..and all of them has got astro dish installed on roof with cablings readily connected to each unit...surely they have some kinda plan worked out right? Or in place?

btw, the new dish is only 5mm bigger than the current one?5mm nia can make so much difference?

actually there's an ongoing debate about 720p and 1080i...

from what i've gathered...for HD, progressive is always the better mode than interlaced, and 720p is probably a bit better than 1080i...but to some extend depending on the frame rates and other technical details as well

check this one out...720p vs 1080i - a simple video on the difference of quality

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-JXfyvlPh0

and even in the US, these are the common resolutions for HD...so don't ask for 1080p...it's too much of a bandwidth, technical data issue to tx at this resolution.

so just be happy for whatever Astro's providing soon...as least now we can fully utilize our near-HD qulaity tv and 5.1 receiver when watching tv

i just want HBO, Max in HD with less censorship (esp. for shows like True Blood drool.gif ) ...the rest doesn't matter for now

Hope the charges won't be as high....

Agree. Being in the country that we're in. If no one makes any major scene, we'll be prolly stuck wif the current quality of ASSTRO broadcasts.

Decoder hardware might need to be changed (which costs alot for them to rollout). so high chances they would announce another new system (maybe Astro HD) which of course you have to get a new set of decoders ( prolly with HDMI connections etc. ) and of coz the extra charge for it just being HD itself. wink.gif

There is no point in upgrading the already suited system from Msians viewers if it's not going to make them more profits. So this is the only way I think they would roll out if there are really going HD later on.

Jz my 2cents.

Amazing. Was your 2 cents formulated before or after you read the previous posts about Astro's rollout? or did you totally disregard them altogether

if we can pay just RM 20 for the 5 HD channel, astro will be losing money because those channel are the main selling point for their different package. why would i want to get the learning, movie and sport package if i can get the HD version of their best channel at RM 20?

Not like that la.. RM 20 on top of ur package.. Like you pay extra for Macd Large set.

But this one, for my case. I don't have movie package so I pay extra RM20 HD Discovery channel only.

While people with movie package can get HD HBO & Max with the same RM20.

This way, the RM20 will even help upsell additional packages.
eg. current Sports users with no Learning or Movie packages will be tempted to add-on just to view the HD channels. tongue.gif

Media friend confirms that the HD media launch will be next Fri, 11th Dec. The media briefing this week was nothing that is not covered here already, seeing all the info here, the press is apparently the last to know anything laugh.gif There were some HD decoders showcased though, but the media is not supposed to publish or give details about it ... yet. Anyway, all this is old news, top of everybody's mind now must be - HD's finally to Astro, but how much do we have to pay for it?

In every package there will be a HD channel so that means we have to consider most of the packages to get more HD choice .That means the price maybe just RM20 or so for HD. In spore the whole six HBO HD pack is SDollars 25 and HD NG and Discovery is about Dollars 5 each. while ASN sports HD is dollars12. Astro uses the strategy of packing and repacking so ours should be cheaper. I feel it wont be a bomb end of the day. Just stand by to spend RM150 to get the thrill and fun first then slowly we can cut one by one bcos end of the day again we wld have nothing to watch all wld be repea mad.gif ts !!!! !

I think kbchong is asking out of these 2 - Plasma and LCD, which ONE will be better PQ?

Right now it's all speculative on how good the signal is? hmm.gif

Plasma tvs obviously as better and deeper black levels, better motion rendition and of course better viewing angles..Thus,plasma tvs trumps LCD or these so called LED tvs in PQ

people still have perception that plasma have burn in problem, but almost all the plasma produce in the recent years have included technology to prevent burn in.
