If you are using kitlens, you got no choice but to stick with f5.6 since that's the biggest aperture available @ 70mm smile.gif

narrow DOF = more bokeh

You don't need to aim for 50D, personally I find 40D already quite good. If you want to get a new 50D, might as well add a little moar and grab a Canon EOS 5D which is few hundred bucks away and you'll get to have a full frame camera. ISO 3200 is peanuts then. LoLz
