i think N got better ISO performance but dun like the warm-ism AWB.
C has nicer natural colour but flash is very expensive! If you're into macro, i think C is better (MP-E 65) brows.gif

p/s: pls dun start any war between brand pls :peace

if we use 50mm F1.4 in concert/performance or any low light condition, wouldn't the DOF is too shallow?

Arghh, shall i sell my flash and get a bright prime?
Is 50mm F1.4 make alot of difference in low light compared to using 50m F1.7?
From F1.4->F1.7 is just one stop right?

hmm??y sell flash???u;d have to get one eventually.....i think flash + 1.7 is way better than 1.4 itself in low light...
*
no, i meant sell my extra f42 to get prime. If I were to get 50mm 1.7 then don't think I need to top up, but to get 1.4 need to top up 300+. So just wanna ask if the one stop worth double the price?

sell extra f42, get 1.4 - topping 300++ is worthwhile because you get a new lens with warranty compared to an old lens without warranty and of course F1.4, though there is not really must difference between F1.4 and F1.7 - like in a room light, I get 1/20s on F1.4 and at F1.7, I get 1/25s - this is at ISO100

Thanks chiggy smile.gif
How about image quality wise? like sharpness? most of us get a prime because of the sharpness right?

Haiz after I read albnok post, still cannot decide what to choose.

Ok let me tell you guys my options biggrin.gif

i) Sell new and used f42s, expecting about 13xx-14xx. So I can get f58 for 11xx which left 200+, then top up 300+ to get used minolta 50mm f1.7.
ii) Sell new f42, top up 300+ to get f58, so i will have 2 flashes to play.
iii) Sell new f42, top up 300+ to get new Sony 50 mm F1.4.
iv) Sell new f42, get the used minolta 50mm F1.7, keep the extra 200+ (maybe can consider get a good tripod or raynox)
v) Keep the new f42, play with 2 flashes.

I'm just an amateur photographer, still studying, so don't have much budget to get more stuffs. I think if I have 2 flashes, won't be using them much. Even if wanna shoot events or weddings to earn some pocket money, would you guys use 2 flashes to walk around?
The only time I think I will use two flashes is to do a product shoot or some studio-like shots.
As for low light, let say nice low lit restaurant, would F1.7 enough? I don't normally shoot front stage performance like albert where you can squad infront of the stage. Normally I used beercan to shoot from far with flash.
I personally quite poisoned with f58, kinda regretted for not getting f58 last time.
So I have some questions to those who own both f58 and f42, if shoot from far using telephoto and f58 at full blast, the recharge time is faster than f42? I heard f58 consume less power than f42 is it true?
I need advantages of f58 over f42, so far from what I read are quick shit bounce, strobe, built in bounce card.
Or maybe shall I wait for the new 50mm F1.8? what's the difference between F1.7 and F1.8?

Sorry for the long dilemma, but I really think that since Sony gave me a chance , I should use it wisely, that's why I thought of all kind of options. icon_question.gif

tanjq87, most of these places usually do not allow flash photography. Or you could tell that it is rather rude when it's a dimly-lit place and suddenly your flash goes BOOM!

The F58 and F42 both take 4 seconds to recharge. I carry both to weddings and stuff because the F58 can overheat if you blast too many in a short period of time, so I quickly swap the F58 with a F42 and continue shooting.

If you don't plan to do creative wireless flash/studio stuff, then you should just have 1 F58 - this will be better for events.

lol, made me laugh non stop for the word 'BOOM'
well, yea it's true that it's rude if I use flash in that kind of place.
most probably i will just get an extra f58..let have TT on what multiple flashes can do!
At the mean time, I think just wait for the F1.8 to come out in the market and see how is the performance and SAVE money at the same time.
May consider the sigma 30mm also tongue.gif

Ok! problem solved, time to study for exams...last exams though, wish me luck!

tanjq87, the 30mm on APS-C is a very nice focal length, much, much nicer and easier to use than 50mm, though 50mm gives a nicer crop for shooting gigs. Will be sure to invite you for the next TT for an enlightenment on this focal length!
