I just want to share my bad experience with 3rd party usb cable.

I bought a brand new iphone 2G from US in January (dont ask me how but I have receipt from apple store to prove it). It's just the phone itself without cable, dock, etc. I have a genuine usb cable but I have to share it with an ipod used by my wife, so I need to get another cable.

I eventually got a 3rd party cable from a guy from LYN. Initially he claimed to be selling genuine cable for lower price in his ad. but when I get to his store in Subang, he said only got the cheaper 3rd party cable. I bought the cable because I drove all the way there at night just to get the cable, and also I thought there is no difference since's it's just a usb cable.

I was wrong! a month later, I couldnt charge my iphone. Even putting it to DFU mode also itunes couldnt detect the phone. I thought it was software problem so I wiped off everything and reset to factory default.

I just sent the phone in to a friend who repairs phone. he found out that two of the pins inside the iphone connector was pushed al the way back until even using genuine cable also cannot get connection. So he has to replace the connector which will cost a few hundred bucks!!

Anyway, what I want to share with all is dont try to save a few tens of ringgit and end up having a damaged iphone like me.

If you buy from the Apple Store, it comes in a complete package.

That's why it's always better for us to fork out more money to get genuine accessories isn't it? Anyway, Subang Jaya? You bought it from L*S shop?

some cable no problem and usually ok i guess..

this is my experience, i have an ipod nano second generation and i used it very wisely until 1 day i go to my brother house and forgot to bring my original usb cable(i usually charge from pc to ipod), at that time we( me and my brother are going to lowyat ) and i was thinking on buying cappalang usb CHARGER for my ipod, the seller told me it genuine but i think its cap ayam since its only rm20 and after that i charge into my ipod,
first time i charge and no problem then after that, when i want to put songs into my ipod it cannot detect by pc anymore, i have tried a lot of time and have google a lot etc to get info and from internet they told me that sometimes using cap ayam cable will make my logic board burn,

guess what, i have ask my brother to send to apple store in HK, UK ( since he cabin crew ) to repair it and its was my logic board problem, in order to change it around 380 needed.. shocking.gif

so now my ipod was in my drawer sitting there with im not using it anymore and from that i never want to use cap ayam cable/charger anymore.

so the main point is that, dont use cap ayam cable hehe.. icon_idea.gif . i know some people dont have any problem but better not to use it because if got no luck like me, your ipod/iphone will suffer for it muahahaha. rclxms.gif

shoot. i think i had similar problem. i used my old iPod cable with my old iphone 2g and it had the exact problem! cannot be charged or detected by pc at all (even in DFU or any other God Mode).

so now i got myself iPhone 3G and using the stock cable. but i notice everytime i plug my iphone to the usb port, whenever i touch the phone, i feel a lil bit of electricity shock (or static electric, i dunno). i mean it happens when my feet touching the ground (means i feel nothing when i lift my feet off the ground). is it normal?
btw i put my pc on the floor also.

That's only true when apple was still selling 2G. As you all know, iphone 2G is no longer on sale. Mine is a special case which doesnt come with complete package. I was surpise also when they said it's brand new.

It started with some error message on my PC. After a few times, itunes cannot detect iphone. Whenever I plug in iphone to PC, XP says usb device is not recognized. So it cannot sync and cannot charge. I tried this with a few other PCs then I concluded it must be something wrong with the iphone. at one time, I tried using my friend's ori cable and it could still detect. After that, I still use the 3rd part cable to sync and charge without realizing it was caused by it. One day later, it just wont detect/charge at all, even with genuine cable.

Well, I dont really remember the name of the shop nor the guy's name. If you want, you can PM me and I will tell you where the shop is located. But that is not the reason I posted this.

I just want to share my experience with all iphone users and hopefully things like this can be avoid. It just doesnt worth it to go for 3rd party cable.. Only if I knew.

Well I specifically asked if it was refurbished, they insisted it's new. Anyway, there is no way I could check that.

Well then if it's new then why it's not in complete package? It has to be refurbished unit, so the condition is back to new again.
