yes the length of the air ram is very important.
i just change my air ram from short to long last week.
will up load the pic this evening after work for you.

Sure thing. How is the difference? The short one I noticed is improved throttle responsela.

How about the longer one?I added another 3 inch to the length of the ram pipe. Havent gone for a test drive yet.
*
ha..this one depends on many factors & depends on what car you're driving.
catacomb had spoken, always face it in a cooler area preferbly a place where cold air is directed to the POD.
thats why u see a trend now is to dig a hole in the front bumper. tongue.gif
Attached Image
otherwise don't use open pod because it's sucking air from every direction. no matter it's hot or cold air.
Attached Image
u should get a direct drive pod which sucks air in one direction only.
Attached Image
let's take my satria neo for example. last time it was a short air ram facing inside (below)
Attached Image
response was ok but still sucking hot air, so i've changed to a "S" shape ram like this pic i borrowed.
Attached Image
i've tried it for a week, response was superb because the air ram was long enough to keep air inside, my old direct drive pod was facing the ABS area so at least it's not facing the radiator. moreover it sounds like vtec tongue.gif rrrrrrrr sound. so called vtec sound lar... laugh.gif FC dunno yet... still in the midst of testing.

yes i agree, longer ram pipe will increase your low end torque with some lost at top end....but it also depends where you mount the filter, sucking hot air will drop the torque also.....
*
noob here, whats a low end torque & top end? hmm.gif

i felt something... when i reach 90-100km it feels... different from the old short air ram compared to the new long air ram...

i cannot picture it in words... sad.gif

low end torque = approx 3k rpm n below
top end power = approx 3k rpm above
mid rpm power = around 3k rpm
*
i see, thankiu for the explanation rclxms.gif
so catacomb do u agree that long ram pipe has poor top end power? hmm.gif
thats how i felt lor....

depends on what temperature is the air intake... if short ram with hot air and long ram wif cold air... of coz cold air better rite....

but if we talk about air flow, shorter pipe gives better high rpm power... revs feels lighter...
*
wow! so fast reply de... tongue.gif

so the best recomendation is: short air ram + cold air is it?

last time had anyone complained about their long air ram before? hmm.gif

i using long ram now... high rpm doesnt feel light compare to ram-less last time... muahahaha... besides, ram-less gives vr vr nice melody at high revs... wub.gif
*
oh u mean the pic u showed the other day tongue.gif the pod connected directly on the throttle laugh.gif
well, but long ram also has some advantages right...? hmm.gif compared to short ram...

here is the pic for TS

advantage is it allows ur filter to reach out to cooler part of ur engine bay for cooler air induction lo
*
just lidat only meh dry.gif
then why not use short air ram + CAI hose to get cooler air lor... wouldn't that be more effective? hmm.gif

short air ram will usually go no where... ur filter will still be in hot region in ur engine bay coz near to ur engine (heat source).... cai hose facing ur open pod filter will not be effective at low speeds coz such CAI setup only works when ur car is moving...
*
i see, i understand what you're saying. CAI hose need moving speed force to feed the POD with cooler air.
i'm still in the midst of testing mine, can't conclude any answers yet.
but thanks for sharing. tongue.gif

how should i repay your kindness brows.gif

Bro ah liew, since you are using the direct open pod, just connect the cai hose to ur pod opening. It will work as a vacuum sucking in air thru the hose. I have done so before, so try it.
*
ya thought of that too but must open a hole in order to fit the CAI hose.
sakit hati lar.. wana open a hole in the bumper sweat.gif
so i might remove the fog light in future to fit the CAI hose but have to make consideration for rainy & flood season becoz my car is quite low & M'sia, u know lar... always here flood there flooded... sian! doh.gif

difference in the POD lor...
1st one is an open POD & mine is a cap ayam tongue.gif direct induction POD
CAI stands for cold air intake.

i see restriction in dat shielded filter... if wanna go for open pod, go for proper one... else, jz get a drop-in filter element...
*
oic so which open pod do u recommend?

wah! heavy rain here in johor.... mellow.gif
