I need some help. I get very confused when I read on various unlock/jailbreak tutorials that if my iphone 3g uses Yellowsn0w then I can't use redsn0w, etc.

My prob is someone bought me the iphone from Hong Kong and it's already unlocked but it's jailbroken and when I checked in Cydia, it has Yellowsn0w. So I think it's not the original unlocked version of iphones they sell in HK. I dunno where the seller got his phones from but I suspect since I have Yellowsn0w in my phone, it could be an originally locked version.

Now I wanna upgrade it from 2.2 to 3.0 but I'm stuck when I read about not being able to use redsn0w if I have Yellowsn0w in it. So what do I do now? Can I use Ultrasn0w without Redsn0w? Or can I just go ahead with redsn0w then Ultrasn0w? And I've updated my iTunes to 8.2 but I still see it say I can update to 2.2.1 rather than 3.0...so if I download the 3.0 firmware from the link provided in this thread then when I update, will it update automatically to 3.0?

Please can someone answer these questions in a simple way fit for a super noobie like me?? I'm noticing how outdated my iphone is everyday being stuck in 2.2...

For the iphone 3g, is redsn0w 0.7.2 good enough or is downloading redsn0w 0.8 a better choice?

Yay! It's done without any trouble! Got a minor scare when getting into DFU mode. Didn't know it was so fast. So gotta do that part again when it couldn't detect. But otherwise it's all cool! Thanks for answering all my noobie questions!
