***THIS IS FOR MAC OSX USERS WHO'S JBING YOUR IPHONE BY YOURSELF***

Listed on the guide 3G IPhone Jailbreak Tutorial posted by davidgary73,

You DON'T have to use Firefox or any other web browser just to download the IPSW file, using your Safari go to Preferences and untick

Open "safe" files after downloading

to ensure that the zip file stays together and not unbundled. Make sure it's unticked before you download the file or you'll have to endure another long download again as Safari only recognizes the option after the download is finished. The best way is to just untick the option, restart your Safari for safety purposes and come to this thread for a great step-to-step guide to unleashing your IPhone to the next level. smile.gif

(There David, part of my contribution. Kacau me somemore say i never come into the forum recently. tongue.gif)

i'm on Mac. after i enter DFU, at the final stage of the entire update. the waiting to reboot part is just damn bloody long. it doesnt show any progress at all!

Yup, it does take a while. When i upgraded to 3.0 it took me an hour (including the installing, process, etc.) There should be a progress bar once you start restoring your phone both on your mac and on the phone. (Your mac would have a detailed process bar when you're restoring like "extracting software" and such.)

1 small question..during jailbreaking, should i install icy? I know it is somewhat similar to cydia. SHould i install both or only cydia at the moment?
*
I think you should install both. Cydia has very long load times due to updating their packages but Icy works faster. Besides, there's no problem of having both. My IPhone sometimes have problem with Cydia (due to my wifi area) and so i use Icy as it uses less graphics (Vice versa when i feel that Cydia is better. smile.gif ) In the end i'd suggest don't limit your phone, just install both. smile.gif
