erm... u mean u got your 3Gs and u did the restore thing? i think u just skip the restore process.. that is what i did, i download the 3.0 file.. without restore, then straight open redSnow and choose the 3.0 file and JB.. it works for me..

Cool method will ask my friend to try it out. Guess like that 3.1 can be JB-ed already la.

My firmware v is 3.0.1 la. Redsn0w cannot recognize the version also. I wanted to install Cydia cause mine now don't have Cydia la. Any other alternate way to install Cydia? I need Cydia lol.

For 3.0.1 , you use 3.0 fw also

Thats what I did for my Iphone 3.0.1, in fact I'm pretty sure I read thats what you are supposed to do. When you say redsn0w doesn't recognize the firmware (3.0.1), do you mean that it shows that at the first step of the redsn0w app?

Anyway, that is basically what I did and it worked for me.

Yeah. Cannot go through the first step for 3.0.1 where u browse for the file. Then cannot lol. I will try later la. To restore using 3.0 firmware. Heheh.

you must 1st downgrade your firmware to 3.0 (refer to the first post by ts)
then you can JB ur 3gs

Lol please keep up to the date with the news, as of now you can't downgrade anymore to 3.0 unless you have saved your ECID SSH(with JB'd phone) before Apple stopped signing older firmwares.

So for now, if you are OTB 3.1, means no JBing. There are however other parties that are currently working on a JB for 3.1 proper, so stay tuned. With or without JB the IPhone is worth it.

i have broken screen lock button, can i upgrade my firmware to 3.1 by using recovery mode instead DFU mode ?

the link u posted method only works for those who have backed up their ECID via cydia while apple is still signing 3.0. if u got a 3.1 OTB means u never have saved ur 3.0 ECID hence u wont be able to downgrade

i just got my iphone 3gs 32gb black yesterday. the firmware is 3.0.1. does it mean that i can jailbreak it with redsnow? then is it possible for me to update my firmware to 3.1 in the future when jailbreak is possible for 3.1. at that time do i update thru itunes or is there another way i should use?

yes, skip the restore process. to make sure u will be able to restore to 3.1 in the future, u have to back up ur 3.1 ECID via cydia. if u didnt do this, once apple has release newer firmware (ie 3.2 or 3.1.1) u wont be able to restore to 3.1 ever again.

thanks a lot for the info bro. so it means that i jailbreak 1st and then only back up the ecid via cydia once the jailbreaking is completed rite? i didn't dare to start anything cos scared might screw up.. so i have to download the firmware 3.0 and place it in the pwnage folder rite so that i can't select that folder when redsnow ask which version i'm jailbreaking?
