If you want to pay the least, then it's DiGi Smartplan Lite RM33 + BIS RM10. This entitles you for 300MB quota. The Smartplan RM68+ BIS RM10 gives you 3GB quota.
For Maxis RM40 BIS, there is 250MB quota. Once exceeded, it's 0.5c/kB. To see more about the packages, visit the provider's website, it's self explanatory: http://www.maxis.com.my/personal/blackberry/bbr_packages.asp For prepaid BIS, it is indeed deactivated once you unsubscribe or run out of credit. BIS is not activated "forever". Only that specific SIM with BIS account can be used. You cannot just chuck in another SIM card with no BIS subscription. |

QUOTE(hyperyouth_firepower @ May 8 2011, 02:31 PM) Yes, you can use wifi, not use gprs, 3g, etc. To do so you need to go to the options in your blackberry, enable data transfer, but disable radio (the term for all the 3g, edge, gprs thingy) and then connect to wifi. roaming users do this often. Of which, the device can no longer use cellular services, including voice call and SMS. On Blackberry, it's not like those on Android/iPhone where you turn off data and keep radio on. We do the opposite, data on with radio off. |

Why would you want to turn off mobile data anyway? What if you moved away from wi-fi range and miss some emails? The BB is intended to make your life easier and organized.
Get a proper data connection package if you think you need more. |

No. You can turn on both wifi and cellular data service at the same time.
If wifi is available, most of the connection goes through wifi. When wifi signal becomes weak or unavailable, it automatically switches back to cellular data connection. |

You sure BIS activated? Does your device show EDGE/3G or edge/3g? Do you see the BIS flag near your signal bar?
Only those device without BIS will not be able to use facebook and twitter. You may also need to restart the device to allow activation to complete successfully. |

It is using wifi for most of the connection I believe, when you have both wifi and mobile network on.
Turning off mobile network radio, you would not be able to retrieve calls and SMS. No worries with your quota, especially with DiGi. You wouldn't be charged for exceeding the quota. Just feel free and make yourself comfortable with the BB. |

QUOTE(cloudwan @ May 10 2011, 04:16 PM) Hiya guys a noob question here, my friend just bought a bberry curve 3g phone & she's using it with her maxis line, how to set the blackberry curve 3g setting so that she can use mms & surf internet? Tried looking for the setting at maxis website but couldn't find it and also using the auto phone config on maxis website doesn't listed any bberry phone.. thanx I'm not very sure about this but usually the device can access ordinary edge/3g without any additional set up. Once you have subscribed to Blackberry Internet Service from Maxis, service books will be pushed to your device automatically.QUOTE(mxiii @ May 10 2011, 08:51 PM) You can use wifi without data plan. However, if you do not have BIS, there will be no BBM, email, facebook, twitter, windows live mail, Blackberry Maps or any other application which require BIS. You can still use the browser to surf ordinary websites. |

When you do not have BIS, the device couldn't do anything much.
I have an enquiry from a fellow forumer about App World giving error. Apparently, App World wouldn't work without a data connection even if you have wi-fi. Moral of the story, don't rely on wi-fi to replace a data connection/BIS. |

QUOTE(rockstar teddy @ Jul 12 2011, 05:55 PM) before u judge: Just like all the trouble I had with Dopod 838 Pro's touch screen, HTC diamond that died by itself in pocket and Samsung Galaxy S that drops data connection more often than anything else(still an issue that I observed on SGS2). Fortunately Blackberry Torch is the one that works so far.During my 1st 3 days of owning the Bold 9700, it went dead just like that after one fine morning as I woke up from my sleep. Got a replacement cz device issue. That didn’t stop there as well, less then 1 month later, the device died on me again. This time not only it auto reboots every morning and evening, it also freezes every time a notification came in. got replaced cz hardware failure But now, after 7 months on the replacement Bold 9700, the same symptoms appear; it auto reboots on occasional days, but a few times in 1 day, it also freezes on occasional notifications or at certain applications, unable to detect my memory card (causing me to always repair the card – even though the is no issues with the card), and worst still – drop calls. How can a 1yrs old berry be that way. what utilize & maintenance you rant about? the only 3rd part app i use id FB, Twitter & WhatsApp. you tell me? i learnt so much from troubleshooting the berry it scares the tech at svc centers. Added on July 12, 2011, 6:09 pmi dump the berry for what u say? ifon? sorry la.. for its un reliability i screw it by going back to winMo 6.5 |

Hold the blackberry button to switch to running applications. Facebook sign on top may mean that you have facebook notifications that you haven't handled. 300MB is more than enough even for heavy users.
BB logo only appears on 3G, may disappear on EDGE. It's ok as long as you're still connected to BIS, the logo doesn't really matter. In fact, the capital letters are better indicator than BIS logo. |
