Everything works in Australia. It's just the region stuff you have to worry about.
For the 360,some games are region free, some aren't(especially EA games)
For the PS3,there's absolutely no problem(except maybe I think DLC)
I don't know about the Wii though

Wii is Pal over there. So you might want to check on the region lock again.

Backwards compatibility will be a problem tho. PS2 and PS1 Aussie games will not be compatible (Aussie is PAL, Malaysia PS3 is NTSC/J), and DVD and Blu-Ray also incompatible (Aussie is DVD-R4 BD-B, Malaysia is DVD-R3 BD-A), since the PS3 is only region-free when it comes to PS3 games.

And oh, you will probably have problems with one particular EA game: Army of Two. Word has it that the NTSC/J version is censored (because apparently, shooting at dead bodies is dishonorable in our customs). Whether this means if the PAL and NTSC/UC version will not run on a local NTSC/J PS3 remains to be seen, since no one has actually tried importing a NTSC/UC version of the game and playing it on their NTSC/J console and posted the result on Wikipedia. And you will most likely will not be able to play that game online while in Australia if you choose to import your PS3 and the game.

If i'm not wrong, the only problems you should face are region related problems.

RAMchYLD, Army of Two cannot shot at dead bodies meh? I play PS3 R3 version and always shoot dead bodies. I try to put on YT then bring link.

Exactly. The PS3 is marketed as Region-Free, but the catch is it's only region-free for PS3 games. You'll still have region problem with PS2, PS1, DVD and BD.

This article say one. I found this while trying to find materials to proof that the PS3 is not region-free as they say it was for Wikipedia:

The game's Asian version is an entirely different beast. Due to territory requirements, players of that particular version can't shoot the bodies that are inevitably strewn across the battlefield. As was the case with the initial release of Insomniac's Resistance: Fall of Man, us sick and disgusting Westerners weren't deprived of this "feature."

Aussie have inflated prices for console. Also considering the exchange rate. Its going to cost way much more than suppose to.

At least renting games is easy there, but be aware of the region issues.

I also thought couldn't shoot dead bodies, but I tried last Saturday and could. I'll try to put up a vid by the end of next week (busy).

Added on April 28, 2009, 9:27 pmForgot one thing, if you buy in Aussie, BR is region B and M'sia PS3 is region A. As region A is more common, it might be better to go for the M'sia unit.

It depends what your looking at I suppose. Price wise. I think getting it here in Malaysia would be much cheaper. Region and so on. See what your planning to do.

DS and PSP should be fine.

For Wii, you gotta beware of the Region Lock,
you don't want to get lock into PAL region, their Wii games arrived slower,
sometimes more expensive, and their rating board is kinda screwed up.

Expect problems when games in the like of MadWorld or House of the Dead Overkill arrive in the future,
Their rating board sure went wu-wu-ga-ga over it, and delay the already late launching date.
Poor Australian and New Zealanders.....

Correct, confirm Australia is PAL.

Malaysia, on the other hand, is confused. Sony products is NTSC/J, while MS and Nintendo products is NTSC/UC. Government ratified analog system is PAL. Even with digital TV got choice problem. Gomen ratify DVB-T, but MPB insist on T-DMB. rclxub.gif

That's why multi-system TV is a necessity, not a luxury happy.gif

In a nutshell, if you take in an Asian PS3 to Aussieland:

1. Some Aussic PS3 games cannot connect online and/or access DLC due to region lock. Possibility also some PS3 games maybe not cannot run.
2. Aussie PS2 and PS1 (PAL) games cannot play on your Asian (NTSC/J) PS3
3. Aussie Blu-Ray (Region B) and DVDs (PAL Region 4) cannot play on your Asian PS3 (DVD NTSC/PAL Region 3, Blu-Ray Region A).
4. Maybe TV cannot receive also, must make sure the TV can accept 60Hz input. 720p is 720p, but supported scan rate ie. 50Hz, 60Hz also important.

First MadWorld and House of the Dead came out here already...its not censored either.

Also if you do buy a Wii here and want to buy original PAL games...JB HIFI delivers PAL games here...the only store i know of that does that.

Hmmm... Then EA just lie to US and Europe ppl just to confuse them more... Want to scare the world izzit? EA already scare me enough when they use SecuROM copy protection for their games which is said to break CD drives.
