guys, after doing research, interested with epi zakk wylde, however worry about the passive EMG, read forum they say its rather 'sterile and lifeless' compared to Active EMG.

A i know active EMG are perfect when pairing with Tube amp, i'm planning to get a Smarvo or either ceriatone tube amp to pair with it(18watt marshall clone), fyi email Nik from ceriatone he mentioned that hes going to build an amp with Fender blackface + mesa boogie rectifier style clone, but duno about price yet. rclxms.gif

any opinions on higher end epiphone guitar? passive EMG??

and also anyone has updated price for Epiphone zakk wylde? duno they raised up rpice or not. thx alot. notworthy.gif

Yeah. It made alot of difference for me when I switched to actives........... better sustain, clarity and definitely more output....... ESPECIALLY for pinch harmonics........

But then again........ EMG is always known for it's "sterileness", regardless of it being active or passive.........

If I were you, I'd try it out with passives first and see if you like it..... if not, just switch to actives.

i personally use passive EMG's (h4) and i find them good enough for me. as long as you tweak around with your amp settings and eq you should be able to get most of the sounds you want, or at least close.

But passives lack the punch of actives for sure.

errr....you actually think it was cheap doh.gif .

why is it that nowadays people always like... flex.gif rclxm9.gif drool.gif ....wanting to change to active pickup but then when they see the price they're all shocking.gif doh.gif rclxub.gif ? active pickup IS something but it's NOT everything.

If you're good with a soldering iron, you can do it yourself.......

I rather let someone do it for me professionally so I don't screw things up, and believe me, I screw things up EPICLY....

But yes, try out the Passives first and see if you like it.

Speaking of which, I still have a spare set of EMG 81/85 lying around....... might get a new guitar JUST to install them tongue.gif

That IS tempting, but wasn't THAT impress with it when I saw it in Singapore.

More tempted to get a 22 fret Explorer or a Gibby style V..........

the epiphone prophecy SG im looking at is the dirty fingers version...just have to bear with the gold hardware.
the prob now is the guitars on my GAS list now, i dont intend to replace their pickups with my remaining EMG set...

I actually have more need for a H-S-H, 24 fret, Floyd Rose guitar that is kind of light........

Mostly for taking to guitar classes and exams........

So far the only one that matches my needs is the S Prestige........ AND (Returning back to the topic),
Might install either DiMarzio Evolutions (like the Li) or the new EMG Actives with Coil Tapping on them......

epi prophecy series are very tempting, price wise as well as features/spec, with stock gibson golden fingers as well as EMG active P/U.

however i dont quite like the flamed top idea/looks, to me its very 'toyish' plasticky just like LTD EC,viper 401 see tru black which BTW also an awsome guitar but MINUS guitar collection crazy price smile.gif

i duno, maybe thats just me.. cheers..

I dunno....... I kinda like the finish..... but that's just me.

BTW..... you might want to check out the Camo version of Zakk's LP, mainly because of the Maple neck, if that's your kind of thing.

Once Im very tempted to put in a pair of EMGs in one of my guitars.. Stuck with passives in the end though. I guess emgs are something everyone must try once... no? biggrin.gif

Do they have the camo/chrome or gold plated EMGs for sale here? They are absolutely badass.

Anyway the last time I pick up an Epi Zakk it was heavy as hell!! But having a satin/unfinished maple neck on an LP is something I wouldn't mind.
