for those using 401ax, better not downgrade to lower bios. i messed up mine just now. everything was fine until i tried to restart the laptop, and it wont turn on again. the lights was on and the fan and processor was also on. but the bios screen never loaded up. i wait for hours but still nothing. so stress right now. got to bring to hp service center i think.

here i have attached the screenshot of my laptop running on f03 bios. i have just downgraded the bios from f45 to f03 safely, nothing happened for my downgrade but i dont suggest you to do so.
shady, here is the answer you wanted all along haha. and btw, can you post up your screenshot just like mine showing the gpu and bios version? hope you will pin this up.

Maybe if you try

1. Extracting the BIOS file 30FBF45.FD from the CQ40-401AX BIOS SP43665.exe at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwar...product=3911224

2. rename file 30FBF45.FD to 30FB.BIN

That website sometimes does that around this time of night. Just a thought if the file name 30FB.BIN does not work, you could try JBL20.BIN or JBL20HW.BIN or JBL20.FD or JBL20HW.FD

i am not sure which one is correct cozi put a lot inside there but i think it is not 30FB.BIN coz it doesnt work when i put it alone. when it works, i put :

30FB.BIN
30FBF45.BIN
30FBF45.FD
JBL20HW.BIN
JBL20.BIN

getting tired to put and try them one by one but one of them is definitely the correct one.. huhu.. finally can sleep stressless tonight. haha

Hi lyn forumers, i've seen and test compaq cq40 series notebooks (installed with windows xp) on sale at lowyat plaza in which their brightness fn key is working well. Has a working solution been already found, if so can anyone point me to the right place, any links, guidance would be greatly appreciated, cheers...          p.s, the sellers at lowyat plaza would not tell how they did it !!!

For those whose screen brightness does not work in XP try this

1. Turn the laptop off
2. Remove the AC adapter
3. Remove the battery
4. Press the power button for 10 seconds
5. Insert the AC adapter
6. Power on and let the laptop boot to XP
7. Try the F7/F8 keys for brightness control

Let us know if it works for you.
