erm...bluewind bro, actually what kind of plant are we talking about here? stem plants or foreground plants?
im assuming you're talking about stem plants. well, first of all, do u use tweezers? your problem sounds like my very first problem when i started planted tank. because i plant them using finger. huhuhu~!! seriously, tweezer does the job very well. if you already using tweezers, for stem plants just bury them deep about 1-2 inches in the soil. if you already bury them deep, may i know what's the size or what kind of soil/gravel you use? if you already use at least an aqua soil (instead of commercial fish-only-tank gravel/sand), then check your fishes/shrimps. is there any fauna you;ve kept in there that actually IS NOT suitable for planted tank? (eg: normal black pleco - they swish their tails damn hard and can make plants flew off). the bottom part of stem plants getting brownish or worse, melting is showing that the lights isnt strong enuf to get to that part. but IME, if a stem plants get bushy, normally the bottom part that near to soil arent looking so good sometimes... but heck, they're bushy and the bototm part isnt visible anyway. the plant still thrive because the top part is receiving lights still and the roots still digging (providing your soil is rich with nutrients or at least ADA). hope this helps and if there any wrong someone please help me correct it. thanks... |

@BlueWind
erm... then probably u will need tweezers so u can plant better. like you, i also getting thru that process before. yeah it sux and i cursed the whole night when i need to keep planting the plants. LOL~!... get a tweezer. it should help you solve the problem better. @the_catacombs erm, sorry to say that im abit disagree when you say "plain scape" is iwagumi. that's one stone scape and so far, it's VERY hard to achieve a good one-stone scape. the stone must be able to carry its identity alone without any supports. plus, iwagumi means "rocks arrangements". 1 rock is not rocks "arrangement", it's rock "placement". just so others wont get a misleading means of iwagumi only because iwagumi is NOT a "plain" scape. |

but what i see your glosso is crawling up which shows you, they're trying to reach the light source. hope you know what it means bro... anyway, good luck. |

artificial co2? what do u mean?
yah, i just leave the plants alone initially until the time to trim. leaving them doesnt mean abandon them. they still needs to do photosynthesis every day tho.... so yeah, feed them for that time. p/s: i still wondering, what is "artificial co2" you meant? S.F Excel? |

use vinnegar bro. but make sure the tank still no inhabitants yet. else they'll die. use a piece of aquarium sponge/clean cloth, pour the vinnegar and scrub the waterlines. then use another new (clean) wet aquarium sponge or cloth and wipe it with plain water to rinse. then let it dry completely.
Then the tank is ready for you to do anything with it. This post has been edited by usermode: May 30 2009, 10:23 PM |

walao...damn..so fast post the pic ah you.... really a fast reporter. LOL~!
ya la, i thought i got baby RCS, but it looks weird. so i ask drew how is baby RCS looks like and his explaination is different than my shrimplets. so i took pic and show him...and so fast he already posted here. and yes, i NEVER bought any CRS either in baby mode or adult mode. all i have bought is just RCS for my cleaning crew. hmm... i wonder if my RCS is actually a CRS that manage to stay quite long in my humble non-CRS friendly tank. hahahah~!! worse, that shrimplet in a community tank....bleh~! i guess most of them already been a snack. just left 2 of them (so far that visible at once) that survived in the tank... LOL~! |

QUOTE(Bishop @ May 31 2009, 12:09 PM) Guys trying to grow HC. Dry method for 4/5 weeks then now submerged. Not growing that well after submerged. WIlting maybe not enough light. 22W only for a 1.5 footer. hmm...are you sure it;s due to lack of light?maybe you already knew this but i would just like to repeat it again that emersed HC already used to "unlimited" supply of co2 and when you flood the tank that time, they got co2 only from what you supply them.from my experience doing DSM, first 2 weeks after flooding it, spam the tank with co2 alot. then reduce slowly day by day until the rate you want so the HC can adapt themselves to the changes and preventing drastic environment changes.Where can i find brighter light for 1.5 footer? only see them for 2 footer. 22W for 1.5ft for me personally is not enuf anyway. after flooding the tank, the lights will be reduced when reaching the HC. but for me, since you've grown it emersed with that same light, it wont be as critical as the co2 supplies. |
