For a pure CRS breeding tank, c02 is not important, so is lighting(well not TOO important.. 10000k - 12000kelvin lights are sposed to help enchance the whiteness)

What's important as stated by pinchy is Temperature, temperature, and temperature(And of course, powerful filtration)

2feet is the minimum tank size IMHO.. as it provides just enough water volume in case things get bumpy..

@ pinchy,
Glad to know you're using mosura also, I feed mosura and shirakura together, my shrimps prefer the mosura LOL.. not too sure why.. maybe more fragant to them.

Drew

oh shit... my small tiny pico tank water temp is quite high when i switch on the lamp... damn... even daytime when i didnt switch on the lights, water temp is hot due to hot ambient temperature....

i really dont wanna create another 1.5ft min tank jz for shrimps.... my housemates sure angry... coz averagely i'm using much more electricity due to my 24w lights switch on every nite....

lol, cheap d la that price...
wanna try higher grade price?

nope, larger water volume, meaning the *water parameter more stable...

*water parameter
1) temperature
2) GH
3) pH
4) NO2,NO3,NO4, amonnia and so on...

I got one stupid question to ask, I used to have some plants in my aquarium but it didn't stay firm and kept floating even though I have made sure it stays firm. How do you plant it firm inside the gravel?
*
tie them to small rocks and bury under gravel... plant them deep down until bottom so the roots and grip onto the soil...

@ catacombs, you mean you intended to house the crs in a pico tank which has high temperatures from the start? o.O?

Drew

nope... at least not for long term... i plan to house them in my primary tank... but due to the size they came, i afraid they'll get harass by other fish... datz why i thought put them in my pico tank until they are big enough...

anyway.....dont give up man biggrin.gif

btw...at wat temperature ur crs died?

i keep at around 26 to 28c..still going strong..but not good grade one tho....

not sure what temperature... but its definitely above 30oC....

my primary tank has insufficient hiding place... plus, yesterday only i notice, the smallest inhabitant in my primary tank actually poses highest danger to my shrimplets.... bumble bee goby.... damn...

erm, sorry to say that im abit disagree when you say "plain scape" is iwagumi. that's one stone scape and so far, it's VERY hard to achieve a good one-stone scape. the stone must be able to carry its identity alone without any supports.

plus, iwagumi means "rocks arrangements". 1 rock is not rocks "arrangement", it's rock "placement". just so others wont get a misleading means of iwagumi only because iwagumi is NOT a "plain" scape.
*
oh soli... i didnt know the details on iwagumi styling... haha...

sifoos and taikors... newbie here got a few questions wanna ask... can ah??..

now i got a running 1.5ft tank in my room... and soon to have 2ft tank (after i clean up the silicon).... gonna use 1 for normal planted and fish tank while another mainly for shrimps....

which should i go for shrimp tank??.. i've considered a few options...

1.5ft is smaller, hence can locate my shrimps easier.... and it is up and running... i dont need to take 3-4weeks to run in the tank before start having shrimps inside.... but the problem is unstable water parameter compare to larger 2ft tank...

2ft tank i gonna start a new... new ADA soil (most probably)... new scape and so on... will need time to run in the tank before having shrimps inside...

in the mean time i'm considering having 1.5ft as shrimps only tank and 2ft for fish tank as it has larger room for more community fish... but i'm gonna locate my 1.5ft tank in room with water temp 29oC at highest temp... afraid my shrimps wont make it.... i already had fan running for this tank...

2ft tank gonna put in living room... which i believe much cooler environment compare to my room... 2ft tank will have more stable/lower water temp...

which should i choose??... 1.5ft for shrimp or fish??...

tank location is fixed as 2ft cant fit inside my room and the 1.5ft has no extra space outside the living room...

thanks for all the advices... but 2ft for shrimps only kinda waste... sweat.gif

decided 1.5ft tank for the shrimp... relocated the tank to somewhere away from sunlight and under the fan in my room... will add 1 more pc fan blowing on top to create more water ripple... i'll also reduce the light wattage... hopefully will reduce the water temp even more... so far this 2 months of dry spell, i havent had water temp more than 30oC for my 1.5ft tank...

cleaned the silicon stain of my 2ft tank and dump all my fauna into it... had my largest HOB running for it... gonna monitor see if its sufficient... currently no budget for external canister... no substrate yet... jz some used holland sand and 2 driftwood...

after i've removed all the fish and some algae-infested plants away from my 1.5ft tank, i found my 5 remaining RCS... hehe... damn happy coz i thought all eaten by my fish adi... all 5 RCS seems to be healthy, but not really red in color yet... i also remained 3 of my otos inside as cleaners....

i'll try my luck breeding RCS first... CRS mayb later... at least not until got cheap offer again... haha...

stuff to add/improve...

1.5ft shrimp tank
- larger HOB (mayb)
- 1 more pc fan
- add a few more RCS to increase population

2ft tank
- substrates (fully holland sand or top up some ADA aquasoil)
- macro nutrient
- external canister filter?? (see budget)
- co2 tank (see budget)
- 2ft 55w lighting
- more fishes rclxms.gif

sifoo sifoo dun shoot me... i know i might be doing it wrongly... at least let me try for another time... notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

provide more plants for hiding place lo... dat one later cerita la... if i gonna have baby crs shrimplets, gonna use separate container (breeder normally use to separate the young in same tank) until they big enough....

QUOTE(Zangetsu @ May 31 2009, 09:26 PM)
wanna ask a question about chiller...hope can get answer from any sifu in here...im buying a Resun Chiller CL-280...is it suitable for my 3 feet tank...coz from the research i made and googling Resun Cl-280 support 3 feet tank / 400L but its already max of power using means its also depend how much the water volume of thats 3 feet tanks....by the ways this is the pic of thats resun CL-280...if anyone have using this chiller or know about the max power of this chiller let me know plss
*
normally it is recommended to use larger chiller as it will not need to work so hard to cool ur tank... means if water temp maintain low, the chiller will switch on and off intermediately....

correct me if wrong
