Hi still figuring out about the lighting for my 7.5G

My tank dimension is 48cmx23cmx27cm (L)x(W)x(H)

Is it OK to use 2x18Watt 6500k screw type bulb with reflector?
That will give me around 4.8wpg but from what I have read, the WPG rules doesn't apply for tanks smaller than 10G.

or, should I get 3X18Watt 6500K?

Edit : I am planning to plant carpet plant eg. glosso/ HG.

Now, I need a diffuser and tubing. Does the LFS at Mid-Valley sells ISTA glass diffuser? How much is it?

how much u bought the co2 tank & regulator?
i didnt see ista diffuser at mid valley...

i bought mine at 88 pandan indah & 88 sunwaymas for rm 16 each
*
Bought it for RM200. I think larger tanks are cheaper because can hold more co2 but I don't have the space to store them.

where do u bought regulator? price?

coz the 1 i bought the smaller version doesnt really consistent releasing co2... thinking of buying 1 more for my 2nd tank...

*
The regulator comes with the co2 tank, its 2nd hand. The regulator seems to work fine for me. It does gives a lot of bubble at first(3bps) but after a day it gets stabilize at 1bps. I'll monitor for a few weeks and see how it goes.

First day of my 7 gallon

Dosed a push of Brighty K
Changed the light to 2 X 24W T5HO, hope that will keep the glosso down.
Water still murky...will do water change later tonight.

This is how I mount my fan smile.gif

I use air tubing to cover the metal wire, twist it a little here and there and tight it to the fan.

i still running my local JET canister filter at half flow rate... afraid my canister filter will leak... cannot run full load or else tsunami will happen inside my aquarium... its even worse if i use rain bar...

does lily pipe can minimize the current on the outflow pipe??...
*
That was what i've been told. I am getting one tomorrow hope it will slow down the flow a little bit. smile.gif

Yes and NO to the both of u, Lilly pipes does not lower the flow rate.. It lowers the concentration of the flow by diffusing it wider across the tank tongue.gif

In other word's, too much flow? this would help, but that doesn't mean it lowers your filter flowrate haha.

QUOTE(the_catacombs @ Oct 3 2009, 02:41 PM)
i dont mind increasing the filter flow rate to 100%... i just dont want it to create strong water current in the tank.... pity see my fish keep swimming everyday to keep up with the current...

any cheap glass lily pipe selling??... ADA cannot afford la... but ehiem ones look vr ugly ar....
*
LOL Drew explained it better smile.gif

mmmm....I bought it...and it does diffuse the water flow through out the tank. Much gentler than the spray bar.
now...vortex time LOL

The tank is 1 week since I redid it. No FTS yet, its fugly smile.gif

Yup Drew is correct. I paid 150 for both inlet and intake since SLS only sells them in pair. The intake is too long for my tank though. I bet you can find a LFS that sells only the outlet.

Anyhow here is the tank:

Hi bro,

i just started my planted tank 3 weeks ago, past few days i realize that i have been attacked by algae, now only i know there's so many types of algae and there are so freakin annoyin. i can see some green algae on rocks, and also alot of those spider web like whitish algae on my plants, some plants have back hair algae, damn frustrated now.

can u advice me some fauna that i can add to help on my algae prob?

i prefer small one as want to avoid big one from uprooting my plants.

thanks alot in advance

Might be helpful to have your tank spec. smile.gif
What is the lighting period?
Fert dosing?

Anybody here use Aquasoil Africana before? From the reading that I've done, it contains less ammonium than Amazonia.
Will the growth be a lot slower or just so so...? (how to measure growth ah?LOL)

Really thinking of scraping things up and do something a little bit descent.

On the algae problem : I suggest amanos, ottos and SAEs.

On why the algae is there rampant in the first place : How did you maintain your tank? what filter? weekly WC? how do you fertilize?

Drew

Added on October 12, 2009, 12:59 amas blinded mentioned, lighting periods as well.

also blinded,
I have no experience with africana, but I get a lot of feedbacks saying, though lower ammonia content, plant growth tends to slow down after a while.. no more OOMMPH ( i mean it slows down faster compared to AMz.)

Thanks Drew.
Hmm...I am going to plan very carefully this time around.
Thinking of an island scape and try some stem plant smile.gif
For such a small tank I have plant selection is going to be limited I guess.
Going to gather material slowly and do more research.

Again, Thanks Drew smile.gif

after reading some article on how planting should be, decided to tear down glosso waiting no more...

this is my last hope for glosso to stay down or else will have another replanting but no glosso again...

started around 930, take out water and left bout 30% so that will be easier for planting. surprisingly water didnt turn tu milky as what im expecting... from carpet to ground zero only took me bout 5mins, then took my own sweet time go select runners for replanting.

took me bout 1 hr to replant everything and put back the water... kautim around 1130

Yummy glosso sir. Toss some this way..LOL
Good luck man..smile.gif

Hi guys,

Any idea how to trim vivipara? Little plant let is sprouting on the tip.
Can I trimmed it all the way down just like hairgrass since I want a more uniformed height?

Found out that the filtration rate is slow because i tried it on a low water level. Pump have to work extra hard to pump the water. Tried it again it higher water level and it worked fine.

Changed the leaking tank today and bought some Gex substrate. RM29 for 2kg pack. Put it into the tank and now its running. No plants no fish yet. Water very murky >.<. I also notice that if i move the soil. lots of air bubles comes up. Do i need to move the soil around much and get rid of all the trapped air?
*
Don't stir the soil too much LOL, they are not gravel they are baked soil granules. To avoid air bubbles, fill in the water slowly and evenly.

I guess tenchi is refering to the uneven front portion of the soil not the soil clumping smile.gif

I've tried planting hairgrass without cutting it short first. Some of the old leaves will melt some survive. The melted part will attract algae so unless you want to spend time cleaning and removing melted old leaves you should cut it short. But hey you could try it, maybe it will work smile.gif

Aiyoo..my tank got GDA and GSA again..After a month of algae free tank now have to stare at dusty glass hahahah

Could it be the lack of PO4?

Well, I am going to start dosing dry ferts next week. I've just ordered 1kg of KN03 and 1kg KH2PO4. Going EI style.
