The thing about chick lit I believe, is that they acknowledge that that's all there is to it. The books are not trying to dissect the current crises of humanity or the innerworkings of human emotion etc. It's literary comfort food, that's all it is. It's not supposed to be insightful and it's not supposed to be deep or anything...
