I am Sam Wong from Studycare.co.uk.

In term of visa application, you will have to approach either the British Council or British Embassy in your local area for accurate information.

In the UK, the spouse can always work full/part time on the basis of his/her valid dependant visa, no other visa is required. The wife can look for job once she arrived in the UK, getting a job prior to arrival is uncommon unless you posses certain expertise extremely sought after in the UK, most UK companies would like to conduct face-to-face interview with the candidate.

Hello,

A Form 5 student here. Just keen to know the procedures to get into an university.

1)Leaves school with a SPM certificate
2)Go for a Pre-U course
3)Apply for universities while finishing the course
a Send out application letters/forms
b IF i am accepted,
c Apply for a scholarship
d Prepare visa, ....

How to write application letters?
Do they offer full scholarships for excellent students?
My definition of EXCELLENT STUDENTS is students who thrived to gain TER 90 and above.
Anyway, is it easy for a 11As (SPM) student to achieve TER 90 in SAM/AUSMAT?

Your reply is greatly appreciated!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Ryan

Hi there,

Although it seems for you too early but it is good to do planning now. I would surely recommend you to do A-level. If you have good results in SPM you can apply to UK A-level and study in UK for A-level. Then while completing ur a-level you can pply university with ur A-level forcast results. For scholarships, some A-level college do provide it for outstanding students. This apply same with university.

You can also apply local scholarship with the government.

@ryanyu123, by referring to SAM/AUSMAT specifically, are you after UK or Aus uni?

Erm. Tq for your great concern.
Im after Australia Us since Aus is nearer to M'sia.
N i haven't make up my mind whether to take SAM or AUSMAT.
SAM is offered by Taylor's whereas AUSMAT by Sunway.
Im just deciding which college to go and not the course as i assume both the courses are virtually the same.

Another Question here:
Is it possible for International Students to apply for the PR in Australia after their studies?

Possible, though it's getting tougher. Depends on what you study and what you occupation you can nominate upon completion of your study. Any idea which field of study you're interested in? Engineering? Accounting? Finance? Arts?

As of now, professional accountants (and graduates possessing such qualifications) can apply for PR. Otherwise you will need to apply for TR, work in a related field (accounting in this case) for at least 1 yr before you are considered for the grant of a PR.

In other words, you need to look out for Accounting courses with professional accreditation, not just ordinary BCom(Acctg). Not many uni offer them, so be very careful when you do your research.

Not too early at all for you to think about uni courses. In fact, you're doing a good job by forward planning your career and then work backwards to determine what you need to do to get you there in 10/20 yrs. Keep it up and good luck!

As for scholarships, I don't think TER 90 is good enough. But then again, you might be underestimating yourself at this point. My advice is, do your homework, find out who's offering what, understand your options, and work on them. It sounds tedious, but whatever it is, it will be rewarding at the end of the day.

Thanks for ur compliments.
Do ACCA and CPA considered as professional accredition?
With reference to your statement, tht means Bac(Hons) holders will not be studied for PR application?
Currently interested in Monash University (advised by parents since they mentioned tht Monash is quite prominent). Any comments on Monash?
Thought of transferring to Monash Australia after the pre-u.
Yet funding is an obstacle. So will be looking for scholarships as well.
Heard someone said tht living in Melbourne for a year will cost at least RM100,000 including tuition fees n micellaneous.
How far is this true?

Yes. ACCA and CPA = professional accreditation. CPA seems more common to me though. Any members / accountants here?

Living cost is a very sticky issue. It depends very much on your lifestyle at that point of your life. RM100K per year is a good enough estimate, I reckon. Tuition fee is slightly over A$20K per year, so you can do the maths there.

For PR applications, (Hons) or not, it doesn't really matter. You need to pass the points test regardless.

Monash should have a handful of scholarships you can apply for.

Hey guys,

I heard that there's a Clearing kind of thing for UK, for people who are finding universities last minute when your A level doesn't meet the entry requirement.

May I know where is it held and when is it roughly? I can't find it with Mr. Google.

hi there,

it usually happen after all the application close. You can apply now to get the condition offer. If your results did not meet the condition offer then u will enter into clearing automatically. No need to find which date. Apply early to play safe.

Dear All Beloved Lowyat Supporter,

The main purpose for me to open this topic is try to get as many questions and answer for students who wanted to go to overseas but there have queries.

E.G.

1) Where shall I go to further my studies - UK, AUS, USA, Canada or China

2) How much is the living expenses overseas

3) What is so good about overseas.

Please type in your questions into this topic and I will try to give you the best answer.

Looking forward for All your reply.

Plz only for Students who are serious in going overseas.

Kind Regards

Magentus

Dear Magentus

Good topic to start off

1. to answer your first question, I think it depends what kinda of exposure you want? u want a european flavor? chinse hopspitality ? or american diet?.......joking, i think you yourself will know what you want, if money is not a problem, I strongly suggest going to UK / Europe it gets you expose to many many things, US is not bad too. China unless you want to do chinese medicine which they are pretty good.

2. Living expenses I can give you a rough estimates here
UK - would be around RM 50,000 one year excluding tuition fees
Canana/Aussie/US- RM 40,000
China- cheaper, but one could spend as little as RMB 5 per day or as hgih as uncountable

3. What is so good about oversea??

There is always pro and cons one get

Pros
- great exposure
-meeting frens from all around the world ( in malaysia also same)
-living alone, living independently
-stay strong
-spring, summer, autumn, winter
-learn about another culture and history
-good learning center in oversea due to strong history background , well establish, and higher technology

cons
-expensive
-away from home
-missing food, missing home
-culture shock
-being looked down as an Asian
-language barrier

Again, my conclusion would be "The grass is not always greener at the other side of the Fence", if you cant afford, why go oversae?
and if you do your degree here, chances of getting scholarship for master is way higher, so do degree back home and later think of furthering at overseas

hope my 2 cents helps
