I guess the main thing that attracts me in a HTIB is either the wireless speakers or those virtual surround from the "soundbars". Quality is definitely not as good as true 5.1 or 7.1 but saving from the hastle of wires and speaker placement is a big draw for pple like me 
If you really want to use AVR and wireless, you can get Rocketfish wireless kit or Radioshack wireless audio link. I got them from e-bayAdded on April 29, 2009, 11:00 amAVR got more input connections, can support different speakers and subwoofer (if U wanna upgrade later), generally more features. But if U r not planning to upgrade and have small room, just get the best HTIB.
